Hello everyone, I recently bought an Ikea Platsa system and want to securely fix it to my laminate floor. The challenge is that I want to prevent the furniture from wobbling or shifting during use, while at the same time avoiding any damage to the laminate. I’m looking for a way to firmly stabilize the Platsa cabinet unit without scratching or permanently damaging the surface of the laminate floor. Are there any proven methods or products that help secure furniture in a stable and floor-friendly way? Maybe there are special pads, fasteners, or techniques I could use? Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

If the Platsa units are connected, use the connecting screws provided by Ikea

I agree, the connecting screws significantly stabilize the units. In addition, I like to use non-slip furniture pads made of rubber or silicone. You can place these under the feet without resorting to adhesive materials. They effectively prevent slipping due to their high friction and protect your laminate flooring.

It is also important to regularly check that the fastenings are still secure, especially with heavy loads or if children are involved.

Is there a way to attach the Platsa furniture at the bottom back to the wall without having to drill into the laminate flooring?

The furniture should be secured only to the wall itself and the upper back panel of the unit, not at the bottom on the floor. If you want to avoid any work on the laminate flooring (which is advisable to protect the floor), this is the best approach. Drills and screws are only needed at the top of the furniture and into the wall.

You might also consider placing rubber pads under the furniture feet to increase grip. Your idea to protect the laminate is correct—drilling or gluing on the floor always involves some risks.

If the cabinets are very long and still wobble, it may be worth looking into stabilizing floor rails or baseboards, which can be installed in special cases—though this tends to be more complex.

I think it’s great that you’re paying such close attention to securing your Platsa on the laminate floor!

What really makes a big difference in cases like this is the combination of:
- Connecting the furniture pieces together
- Securely attaching the furniture to the wall
- Using protective gliders under the feet

If you have children or pets, I would even recommend stronger brackets to ensure nothing can tip over. I personally screwed the brackets firmly to my Platsa and added felt pads, and since then I haven’t had any problems with slipping or wobbling!

Very simple: Attach the furniture to the wall using the brackets provided by Ikea. Place felt pads or rubber pads under the feet. This keeps the floor intact and the furniture stable.

Thanks for the clarification; that really reassures me. I thought I might also have to secure the furniture at the bottom. I also decided to use felt pads to protect the laminate flooring.

One last question for the experts here: Is it safe to fix the Platsa units individually with carcass screws and then attach them to the wall at the top with brackets, or is it better to connect all the units together with the Ikea connectors to form one piece and then fix it to the wall as a whole? Which method is more stable and better in the long term?
