Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of safely transporting my Ikea Pax wardrobe during an upcoming move. Since the Pax components are quite large and somewhat fragile, I want to avoid doors, back panels, or interior parts getting damaged while carrying them or warping during transport.

How do you usually transport your Pax wardrobes? I am particularly interested in whether you fully disassemble the wardrobes or only partially take them apart, how you protect delicate parts (back panels, doors, rails), and how you best secure the individual pieces in the moving vehicle to prevent shifting or damage.

I look forward to practical tips and proven methods, especially regarding whether special packaging or tools are useful for transport.

Hello klopeter,

To answer your question accurately, I need to know a few things first: What are the exact dimensions of your PAX wardrobes? Which components (e.g., doors, drawers) are installed? Are you using glass fronts or other delicate materials?

Regarding the general approach: I would recommend disassembling the wardrobe as much as possible. Back panels can often be completely unscrewed; the doors should also be removed, and if possible, pack doors and drawers separately.

For back panels, I usually use large, sturdy cardboard boxes or special furniture blankets that I secure with straps. To protect the doors, I recommend cardboard sheets or foam padding—especially with glass fronts, be sure to use thick bubble wrap.

When loading, it is important to store the parts vertically in places using blankets to avoid warping. Avoid heavy pressure from other furniture or boxes.

What transport means do you have? A van or a moving truck? Will there be help available for carrying? These details will help me give you more precise advice.

Completely disassemble the cabinet, remove all doors, and pack them separately. Handle the back panels carefully, preferably protecting them with blankets and storing them flat. Secure everything in the vehicle to prevent shifting.

It is important to disassemble the PAX wardrobe down to the smallest individual parts, especially removing back panels and doors completely.

- The back panels are often made of thin hardboard, which can break easily. They should be stored flat and well cushioned.
- Doors often contain glass or mirrors, so they require extra protection with bubble wrap and cardboard sheets.
- Screws and fittings should be kept in labeled bags to ensure easy reassembly.
- Vertical storage in the transport vehicle is often preferable to avoid pressure marks.

This helps prevent damage caused by deformation during transport.

I agree with that. In my experience, the drawers often pose the greatest risk if they are not removed. It also makes transportation easier. Cushion all loose parts well and store everything in a weather-protected place before the moving day.

One more tip regarding the doors: If the hinges cannot be dismantled, make sure to cushion them particularly well to avoid scratches caused by friction.

In addition to the previous comments: I have had good experiences wrapping the back panels in stretch film and transporting them flat.

- This prevents creases and provides better protection against moisture.
- Doors can be additionally wrapped individually with furniture blankets.
- Use anti-slip mats on the vehicle floor to prevent shifting.

Complete disassembly is time-consuming but essential to avoid damage.
