Hello everyone,

I have noticed that some of the drawer fronts on my IKEA Malm dressers are slightly warped. This not only looks unattractive but also prevents the fronts from closing properly.

My question to the community is: How do you replace warped Malm drawer fronts?

I want to proceed as professionally as possible without damaging the entire drawer mechanism. Are there any special tools I should be aware of, or tricks that make the removal process especially gentle?

Additionally, I am interested to know whether it is necessary to use new IKEA original parts when replacing the fronts, or if there are compatible alternatives.

Thanks in advance for your tips!

It is best to first completely pull out the drawer and then release the two plastic clips on the side. This will allow you to carefully remove the front panel. To reinstall, simply reverse the procedure.

If the front panel is warped, it can help to carefully detach it from the bracket without screws at first. Do not apply too much pressure, as the material can break easily.

I would recommend taking photos of the fastenings before the interior fit-out. IKEA often uses concealed screws that can easily be overlooked.

Hey, a quick tip from me: if the front panel is warped, you can try to gently warm it (e.g., with a hairdryer) to make it slightly flexible before removing it. This way, nothing breaks. And then install the new front panel with a smile 🙂

Original IKEA fronts fit best. Alternatives are usually not needed, as other models often do not fit precisely.
