Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to upgrade my kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and am wondering if it is possible to replace the drawer fronts without having to change the entire drawer or cabinet frame. Specifically, I want to know if the fronts can be simply removed and swapped for different designs or colors, for example if the old fronts are damaged or if I want to change the style.
Does anyone have experience with this or know if Ikea uses standardized dimensions and fastening methods that make such a replacement straightforward? I imagine it would be possible to order just the fronts as separate parts and change them without much effort.
Thanks for your tips and advice!

Here is a step-by-step guide for replacing drawer fronts on Ikea Metod cabinets:
- Completely pull out the drawer and place it on a stable surface
- Inside the drawer, you will find 2 to 4 screws securing the front panel
- Remove the screws and carefully detach the front
- Position the new front, making sure the holes align
- Screw it back in, adjust the front, and tighten
Important:
- Different front sizes and styles (handleless vs. with handle rails) have different hole patterns
- Fronts vary depending on the drawer width (20, 40, 60 cm (8, 16, 24 inches) wide)
If the holes do not match, Ikea also offers screwless front attachments, although these are generally not used with Metod drawers.

Common mistakes:
- Purchasing incorrect dimensions
- Screws tightened too much or too little
- Not paying attention to the type of front (handleless or handle rail version)I find this very important! I once rushed and didn’t carefully compare the drill holes – it ended up looking slightly misaligned. That’s why you should always place the front on the drawer and check that everything fits properly before fully screwing it in.

I think replacing the Metod drawer fronts is a great way to refresh the kitchen design without much effort. Especially if you have an older kitchen, this can completely change the overall look.
At first, I was a bit hesitant because I was worried the fronts might become loose or not align properly. But after some tips from this forum and a little patience, it worked smoothly.
You really need to be careful with the screws—not too loose, but not too tight either—to avoid damaging the fronts or tearing the material.
Thanks for the helpful explanations—they encouraged me to start my project!

Thank you all for your detailed and helpful contributions!
I will now specifically focus on the measurements and drilling hole positions and will check and measure the individual fronts directly at Ikea.
It is reassuring to know that the replacement only requires a few screws and that the fronts can be reordered individually. The note about different types of fronts (handleless vs. handle rail) is especially important for my planning.
If I have any further questions, I will get back to you. Thanks again for the great input!
