Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I purchased an Ikea Besta system and have already noticed that the edges of the furniture parts are particularly prone to daily wear and tear. I am therefore interested in what options are available to effectively protect the edges of the Besta elements from scratches, scuffs, or general wear.

It is especially important to me that the protection does not stand out visually and integrates well with the design of the Besta system. In addition, I am curious if there are specific materials or products that are recommended, such as edge protection profiles, films, or other coatings.

Does anyone have experience with practical, long-term solutions for this purpose? I look forward to your tips and suggestions!

To extend the lifespan of the edges on Ikea BESTA units, I recommend the following measures:

- Use transparent edge protectors made of soft PVC or silicone. These are barely visible and can be easily glued or clipped on.
- Alternatively, there are self-adhesive protective films that are transparent and can be applied directly to the edges. They protect against scratches without altering the design.
- Make sure to thoroughly clean the surface before applying to ensure optimal adhesion.

I do not recommend painting or other coatings, as these usually do not adhere well to the plastic surfaces of the BESTA components and may appear uneven.

If the furniture is placed in areas subject to high mechanical stress (e.g., corners in corridors), small protective caps made of rubber or silicone can also provide additional protection.

I installed transparent edge protectors on my BESTA furniture. They are easy to install and provide very effective protection against wear. You simply stick them onto the edges, and they have held perfectly for months now.

That sounds like a good idea. I completely understand wanting to keep your furniture looking nice for longer. Especially with IKEA items, it’s not always affordable to replace them, and somehow it feels like the piece loses character faster without protection.

I have tried using films before, but they ended up peeling off after a while, even though I thoroughly cleaned the corners. I’m curious how well these edge protectors actually stick and whether they can be removed without damage if needed.

Maybe someone here has tips on what to look for when choosing these protectors to ensure the edges stay protected for a long time without issues like peeling or dirt buildup.
