Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod kitchen with high-gloss fronts, and I want to clean it properly and gently to avoid damaging the surfaces and to preserve their beautiful appearance for as long as possible.

My question is: How should IKEA Metod kitchen fronts be cleaned correctly? I am especially interested in advice on choosing cleaning products (should aggressive agents like abrasives or solvents be avoided?), the best cleaning techniques, and how to gently remove any grease or fingerprint marks. It would also be helpful to know if there are any specific care instructions from IKEA that should definitely be followed.

I look forward to your well-informed experiences and recommendations!

Hello Tisar, your question about the proper cleaning of IKEA Metod kitchen fronts is very relevant, especially because you need to be careful with high-gloss surfaces.

Basically, I recommend:
- Avoid aggressive cleaning agents such as abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or solvents. These can scratch or damage the fronts.
- Mild soap solutions work best, for example, a small amount of dish soap in warm water.
- Use a soft microfiber cloth for cleaning to prevent damage to the surface.
- For grease stains, you can use the soap solution a bit more intensively, possibly with a small splash of vinegar, but not too much.
- After cleaning, wipe the fronts immediately with a dry cloth to avoid water spots.

IKEA itself advises in the product description not to use aggressive agents.

Patience rather than pressure is important to avoid scratches.

I’ll boldly agree with that, with a wink!

Just be sure to wring out the microfiber cloth well, or you’ll end up with unpleasant water streaks. And hey, fingerprints on glossy surfaces are annoying, but with a soft cloth and a bit of care, they disappear in no time.

A little tip from me: Avoid using very hot cloths, as heat can dull the surface—so lukewarm water is your friend. That way, cleaning stays pleasant for both you and your kitchen 😉.

I would like to add that with IKEA Metod kitchen fronts – especially the white high-gloss versions – proper handling of moisture is important.

- Prolonged exposure to moisture should definitely be avoided, as the material can swell or lose its shine.
- Avoid aggressive chemicals such as acetone, alcohol, or all-purpose cleaners.
- For tougher stains (e.g., dried food residues), you can apply a damp cloth with a mild dishwashing detergent solution and let it sit briefly before gently wiping it off.
- For daily cleaning, a slightly damp microfiber cloth is completely sufficient.

If you need more information: The IKEA care instructions also state that using special polish products for high-gloss fronts is not necessary and may even be counterproductive.

As a supplement, here is a brief guide on how to properly clean your IKEA Metod kitchen fronts step by step:

- Preparation: Remove coarse dirt dry, for example, with a dust cloth.
- Preparing the cleaning solution: Use warm water with a mild dish detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
- Cleaning method: Use a damp microfiber cloth, wrung out well—do not use a wet cloth!
- Cleaning: Gently wipe the fronts in circular motions with the cloth.
- For grease stains: If necessary, use a diluted vinegar solution (1:1 ratio with water), but never use undiluted vinegar.
- Drying: Immediately wipe down with a dry microfiber or cotton cloth after cleaning to prevent water spots or streaks.

Common mistakes I notice are using cloths that are too wet, aggressive cleaners, or vigorous scrubbing, which can cause dullness or scratches.

Conclusion: Patience, mild cleaning agents, and gentle technique will help keep your kitchen looking great for much longer.
