Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to install the Ikea Metod toe kicks in my new kitchen, but I have installed underfloor heating. My main concern is how to properly attach the toe kicks without damaging the heating mats or pipes, or reducing the heat output.
Specifically, I am interested in:
- What fastening methods work best for Metod toe kicks?
- Are there any special screws, clips, or adhesives that are recommended?
- Do I need to maintain a certain distance from the underfloor heating system?
- What experiences do you have if you have installed toe kicks over underfloor heating?
It is important to me that the toe kicks are securely fixed, look good, and that the heating performance is not compromised. I would appreciate any tips, especially Ikea Metod-specific solutions. Thanks in advance.

Simply clean, glue, press down – done! That sounds straightforward, but is the adhesive bond really durable over time with movements caused by temperature changes?
With underfloor heating, there are constant small expansions in the floor area. Screws or mechanical fasteners usually accommodate this better. For that reason, I would recommend a combined fastening system, if the construction allows it.
Sometimes gluing alone is recommended, but that has drawbacks if cables or pipes are close by and the baseboard needs to be loosened. Flexibility in fastening also means safety.
