Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble and install Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets with glass fronts at my home. Since the glass fronts seem a bit tricky to me and I want to avoid mistakes that could cause annoyance later or even affect stability, I would like to know how to properly and safely assemble these cabinets with glass doors and glass fronts. Specifically, I am interested in tips on the correct attachment of the glass fronts to the doors, how to adjust the hinges so the doors close smoothly without putting stress on the glass, and whether there are any special tricks for handling and installing the glass without damaging it. Some advice on preparation and the optimal sequence of assembly steps would also be helpful. Who has experience with this and can provide a detailed guide? Thanks in advance!

Hey, it’s great that you’re thinking this through! Glass fronts look stylish but are definitely more delicate than standard fronts. My advice: when assembling, start by roughly fitting the doors, carefully place the glass panels, then attach the hinges to the cabinet frame and fine-tune the adjustment. This way, you can align the door without putting pressure on the glass—nothing’s worse than the glass cracking from improper tension.

Also, always work with gloves to protect the glass edges from fingerprints and minor scratches. If you have seals (usually silicone strips or rubber buffers), attach them to the back of the glass panels to prevent direct contact between the glass and metal.

Additionally, for mounting the hinges and glass fronts, I find it really helpful to prepare everything on a flat surface first. This prevents mistakes and helps you quickly see which screws go where. Don’t worry, it will be fun! 😄

This is really the core issue, especially with glass fronts – I was quite apprehensive about this work at first as well. The key is to always lift the glass vertically and with both hands. Avoid putting pressure on the edges or any points that could cause the glass to crack.

When adjusting the hinges, proceed in small steps and repeatedly check that the doors close properly all around without any edges pressing or binding. What helped me a lot was to close the door after each adjustment and “feel” if there is any tension anywhere – if so, adjust immediately.

Another good tip is to make sure the cabinet base is perfectly level – otherwise, you’ll introduce distortions that put uneven stress on the glass.

I know it can be frustrating if it’s not perfect right away, but with patience and care you will manage it well. And if you have any questions about the sequence, feel free to ask!

That’s really great advice! 😄 I absolutely love glass fronts—they add such a lightness to the kitchen. Installing the glass panels on Metod is actually quite relaxing if you take your time.

I’d like to add: definitely take your time with the screws on the hinge, because careful measuring and fine adjustments are the best way to prevent the glass from either rubbing or being subjected to too much pressure. I once made the mistake of rushing it and had to completely remove a door again.

One more thing: at the end, always check the seals and silicone strips— even small gaps can look bad later or cause dust and moisture to build up. You definitely want to avoid that.

So, good luck and enjoy the installation—the result is definitely worth it!
