Hello everyone,
I have an Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet door that makes a very annoying squeaking noise every time I open or close it. The noise seems to be coming from the hinges, at least that’s my assumption. I have been dealing with this issue for a few weeks and have tried several home remedies like silicone spray and WD-40 – but the effect is only temporary, and the squeaking always comes back.
My question is: How can I permanently fix the squeaking Ikea Metod door? Is there a method or a specific procedure that works long-term? Do I need to replace the hinges entirely, or is there another more durable solution?
I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences or tips on how to reliably and permanently solve this problem. Thanks in advance!

Therefore, I would ask whether it is known that Metod hinges tend to squeak shortly after installation and that no long-lasting lubrication solution is sufficient.Metod hinges are indeed known for their fairly simple, functional design; however, the materials used are not of the highest quality. This results in noise caused by wear on the thinner metal pins or the plastic bushings.
Therefore, my recommendation with regard to durability:
- Remove the hinges and carefully smooth out any irregularities with very fine sandpaper or fine steel wool (extra gently).
- Then clean them thoroughly.
- After that, apply a thin layer of oil.
This can extend the lifespan of the hinges and reduce squeaking. However, if the material is worn out, replacement is necessary, as light lubrication will quickly stop working again.
The note about proper door adjustment is equally important because incorrect load on the hinge increases friction.
