Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an IKEA Metod kitchen and am now facing the challenge of optimizing the storage space in the kitchen cabinets as efficiently as possible. My specific question is: What practical and proven methods or products do you know to make the best use of the available storage space in IKEA Metod base cabinets and wall cabinets? I am particularly interested in modular solutions, the use of additional inserts, or adjustable divider systems that can often be installed afterward without having to completely rebuild the cabinets.

I need to store both a lot of cookware and pantry items and would prefer to avoid expensive renovations.

I would appreciate any tips, especially if you have experience with specific IKEA brand or compatible systems!

Use of pull-outs that facilitate access to deep areas

That sounds interesting. Could you explain in more detail which types of pull-outs work best for Metod? Are drawer inserts preferable, or are baskets better?

Also, I’ve noticed that some cabinets are quite tall – how do you adjust the shelves when you want to store heavy pots?

Practical tips on how to distribute or arrange the loads would be great as well.

In general, drawers with metal runners offer the best access for Metod, especially the combination of full-extension runners with high load capacity. Metal baskets are better suited for lighter items or pantry goods that you want to keep visible.

IKEA Metod offers shelves with high load capacity, but for very heavy pots it often makes sense to skip additional shelves in favor of larger open spaces. Deeper drawers can hold more weight and also make it easier to take items out.

My recommendation: place heavy pots in wider drawers and distribute lighter items on adjustable shelves.

Wow, really exciting tips so far! I’ve also had great experiences with pull-out baskets – they are truly a versatile solution in the Metod system!

They are especially great for small items like spices or cleaning supplies. You instantly feel organized, and the frustration of having to take everything out all the time is gone!

Don’t get discouraged – with simple tricks like these, you can make great progress! 😊

I see it differently: In my opinion, many people focus too much on internal organization—more drawers, baskets, and divider systems. But let’s be honest, not everyone needs a luxury setup.

Sometimes it’s more effective to simply reduce the contents or declutter more often, rather than making the cabinets increasingly complicated. Storage optimization is not just a technical solution but also a matter of habit.

That is certainly true, but I am specifically looking for solutions for the current needs – we have quite a lot of cookware and supplies, and hardly anyone wants to sort through them constantly. However, I find the tip to consider the frequency of use of items when planning the cabinets very helpful.

Thank you for your perspective, as it complements the discussion well.

I really appreciate how diverse your responses are. I want to emphasize the conceptual aspect again: It helps me a lot to divide the space into categories – quick-access zones for frequently used items, and more distant areas for rarely used ones. For this, I have used simple baskets and boxes, which I label to make handling easier.

I find this system approach very relieving.
