Hello everyone,

I recently installed Ikea Metod base cabinets in my kitchen and am now facing the challenge of optimizing the storage space as efficiently as possible, especially with innovative solutions. I’m not just looking to use standard organizing systems like shelves or simple baskets, but really creative and space-saving ideas to better utilize hard-to-reach areas.

I am particularly interested in drawer and pull-out systems that go beyond the usual standard grids, possibilities for vertical use inside the cabinet, as well as tips to improve space utilization for bulky kitchen utensils and pantry items. If you have experience with custom dividers, flexible partition systems, or DIY solutions, I would be very grateful if you could share them.

How do you specifically approach organizing your Metod base cabinets to maximize storage capacity? Which innovative ideas or modifications work best for you?

Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hey BE-MEO!

I think your question is really important because base cabinets like Metod have so much potential that often goes unused. 😊 My insider tip: use flexible pull-out systems with adjustable dividers! This way, you can always tailor the space exactly to your needs. For example, I’ve neatly stored tall bottles and small spice jars without anything wobbling or wasted space.

I also recommend smartly equipping the doors with narrow shelves or hooks. This hardly reduces storage space but creates extra room for cutting boards or wraps.

Another small highlight: lift-out drawers! They are very practical because they let you divide deep drawers into multiple levels.

Don’t hesitate to get creative and DIY, for example with particleboard cuttings to make custom compartments. I wish you lots of success— you’ll definitely manage! 🌟

I understand the search for innovative solutions, but I want to point out that the storage space in IKEA Metod base cabinets cannot be optimized indefinitely, as the modular systems are quite standardized.

Interesting, but it should also be considered that adjustable dividers often have limitations regarding stability and load capacity. Not every flexible solution is suitable for heavy kitchen appliances or large storage containers.

In addition, when used vertically, it needs to be checked whether access remains ergonomic; otherwise, optimization may cause frustration rather than added value.

Does anyone have experience with durable yet adjustable compartments, or is this mostly wishful thinking?

To answer BE-MEO's question in detail, here is a step-by-step guide on how to maximize storage space in Metod base cabinets using innovative solutions:

- First, you need to measure the interior dimensions precisely. Although Metod offers standardized sizes, individual adjustments are necessary to accommodate, for example, heavy appliances and items of various sizes.

- Avoid using plain shelves. Instead, use custom modular dividers that can be installed at variable heights to make better use of vertical space.

- Use multifunctional pull-outs: pull-out drawers with compartments, combined cutlery and spice holders, as well as foldable inserts for bulky pans.

- Sloping ceilings inside cabinets can be utilized by installing specially made baskets or holders that fit perfectly. DIY solutions using wood or plastic profiles can be easily integrated.

- For hard-to-reach corners, carousel pull-outs or so-called "magic corners" are recommended – compatibility with Metod should be checked here.

- An interesting concept is also the combination of pull-outs and inner cabinet doors with hook or strap systems for smaller kitchen tools.

I’d be interested to know your exact measurements, BE-MEO, and what your main items are. That way, I could offer more tailored advice.

Use pull-out inserts with adjustable dividers from Ikea or third-party suppliers.

Doors provide extra storage space for flat items.

Compartmentalized drawers improve organization and accessibility.

Hello BE-MEO and everyone else! 😄

I really like how many good ideas have already been discussed here! My best “aha” moment with Metod was when I started using the backs of the door panels. It may sound small, but with self-adhesive holders, you can easily store cooking spoons, scissors, and similar items there, freeing up more space in the main compartment.

I also love stackable boxes in the drawers – they make it easy to organize spices or baking supplies while still allowing you to put something on top.

And honestly, I find unconventional solutions like magnetic strips inside the cabinets really interesting. This way, knives are easy to reach, yet stored neatly and safely.

I hope I could share some ideas with you! Have fun optimizing! 🍀
