Hello everyone, I am planning to modify an IKEA Besta cabinet to use it as a shoe cabinet, ensuring it is well ventilated to prevent moisture problems and odors. My idea is to integrate ventilation holes or grille elements, and possibly install ventilation slots in the back panel or sides. However, I’m unsure how to do this in the best way without compromising the stability of the furniture or ruining the appearance. Does anyone have experience or know effective solutions for converting a Besta cabinet so that shoes can be stored optimally without causing bad smells or mold? Any advice on materials or practical tips for the conversion would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

I modified my Besta cabinet by installing a pegboard on the back. Since the board is made of wood, it is sturdy and has many small holes that allow air to pass through. I kept the sides and doors unchanged and did not add any extra ventilation holes, which I believe is sufficient.

It is also important to ensure that the shoes are not placed too close together to allow air circulation. Additionally, small, replaceable activated carbon bags can be placed in the closet to reduce odors.
