ᐅ How can I make Ikea Besta doors and drawers close quietly and smoothly?

Hello everyone,

I have an Ikea Besta shelving unit with doors and drawers, but unfortunately, they close quite loudly and with a bit of a bang. I would like to adjust or equip them so they close quietly and smoothly, essentially adding some kind of damping to the closing process. I’m particularly interested in what options are available:
- Are there special dampers that can be retrofitted?
- Can the existing hinges or drawer slides be adjusted to allow for a softer closing?
- What experiences have you had with different systems or modifications?

I would prefer to avoid expensive complete replacement solutions and instead work with targeted measures. Maybe you also have tips on what to pay attention to during installation to achieve the best possible smoothness. Thanks in advance!

I added small soft-close clip-on dampers to my hinges – a bit fiddly at first, but once properly installed, the effect is phenomenal!

I can only agree with that. At first, I was skeptical whether such a small modification would really improve my Besta doors, but now I’m very satisfied with the result.

You really need to be patient and work carefully, but it’s worth it. It has noticeably made using the furniture more relaxing since no one has to worry about doors slamming anymore.

So far, the adhesive has held up very well for me, but I made sure the surfaces were completely clean and free of grease before installation. I also noticed that you shouldn’t press too hard or slam the doors shut; the dampers have some flexibility but aren’t indestructible.

I also found it important to properly adjust the hinges before mounting the dampers; otherwise, the soft-close function doesn’t work very well.

In case anyone is interested: I got the dampers from a hardware store; they are specifically made for retrofitting furniture.
