Hello everyone, I recently ordered several pieces of furniture from the Ikea Hemnes series, which are known for being quite solid and large. My question is: What is the best way to transport these Hemnes furniture items without causing any damage during transit? I want to avoid scratched edges, broken surfaces, or deformation due to improper storage. Are there any proven tips or materials that should definitely be used? And what about disassembly – is it better to completely take the furniture apart or transport it as is? I would appreciate practical advice since transporting them in my car will be quite tight, and I need to be very careful.

Rule number one: secure and cushion the transport unit! Disassemble the Hemnes, cover any sharp edges, and wrap it with padding or blankets. Lay it flat in the vehicle, not upright, to prevent tipping.

I know the feeling of loving your furniture and being afraid of damaging it during transport. For me, it helped a lot to wrap each piece in blankets and secure them with ratchet straps. Patient handling is especially important—no rushing. And if you get help, make sure everyone involved is warned to be gentle—often the biggest damage happens due to haste or improper lifting technique. Good luck, it will work out!

For transporting Hemnes furniture, the following approach is recommended: disassemble the furniture as much as possible, and secure doors and drawers separately with packing paper or bubble wrap. Keep the furniture carcasses lying flat during transport to minimize stress on the joints. When loading, use a sufficiently sturdy vehicle and apply non-slip mats. Additionally, I suggest padded corner protection (for example, polystyrene or special edge protectors), as the edges of Hemnes are often delicate. This effectively helps to prevent damage.

If the joints really suffer from repeated disassembly and reassembly, it might be sensible to choose a hybrid solution.

Exactly! I have also taken apart and rebuilt Hemnes dressers before, but always carefully. Removing the doors and padding makes a big difference—much better than completely disassembling—if you care about the durability of the joints.

And: Enjoy the process! Moving like this is a small challenge too—but with the right preparation, everything will go perfectly!!!!

In summary: Disassemble where practical, protect surfaces, cover with tarps, secure firmly. During transport: prefer laying flat, avoid stacking, be careful with corners and edges.

Still, the risks should not be underestimated. Even with optimal preparation, Hemnes furniture remains vulnerable to edge damage if you are not extremely careful. That’s why professional furniture movers often use special protective materials, applied already during loading, to prevent pressure marks. A direct recommendation from Ikea would be helpful here to find the best approach.
