Hello everyone,
I recently bought an Ikea PLATSA cabinet system and am currently installing the doors while also taking care to maintain them so they stay looking good for a long time.
My main question: How do I properly care for the Ikea PLATSA doors?
Specifically, I am interested in which cleaning products are safe to use, whether aggressive cleaners like all-purpose cleaners should be avoided, and how to prevent scratches. It would also be helpful to know the best way to clean the surface if it gets fingerprints or dust.
I am asking particularly about the doors with the melamine coating – is there anything specific to keep in mind with these compared to other kitchen cabinets or furniture?
Thanks in advance for your tips!

One more question: What type of doors exactly do you have – are these the solid panel doors or a different model? That can slightly affect the cleaning recommendations. Thanks for asking. I have the solid panel doors in matte white. The material is the described melamine coating, so no glass front or plastic laminate.
It really helps me that the cleaning products are so clearly specified. How about in cases of tougher dirt, for example from adhesive tape or stickers? Can you use regular cleaners, or do you need to be careful and use special products?

What if there are more stubborn stains, for example from adhesive tape or stickers? For these cases, I recommend gently treating the affected areas with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).
It is important to test on an inconspicuous spot first to make sure the surface is not damaged.
Alternatively, you can use a rubber eraser to mechanically but gently remove residues.
Under no circumstances use aggressive solvents like acetone, as they will damage the melamine coating.

Stickers can usually be softened well with warm water and mild dish soap before carefully removing them.

This has caused damage for me as well, even though I thought the surface was durable. That’s why I find the tips here very helpful.
You shouldn’t stress too much if something goes wrong; often there are repair options or replacement parts available.
So it’s better to be cautious, clean with mild agents, and occasionally review your cleaning technique to keep everything looking good for a long time.

Avoid placing hot objects directly on the doors.
