Hello everyone,

I have a question that many might be familiar with: how do you effectively dust the inside of an IKEA Pax wardrobe? Specifically, I’m concerned about the dust inside the drawers, compartments, and especially on the upper shelves, which are often hard to reach and tend to build up over time. The doors can be cleaned easily enough, but removing dust inside—especially in the corners and along the side panels—is much more difficult.

So far, I’ve only tried using a damp cloth, but that doesn’t help much since it tends to spread the fine dust instead of removing it completely, and I can’t get the compartments fully clean. Are there any special tools, cleaning methods, or tips for thoroughly cleaning the entire interior without damaging the structure or surface?

If you have any experience or advice, I’d really appreciate your suggestions!

This is a common question because the Pax systems offer a lot of space, but also have hidden areas where dust likes to gather. I would recommend first completely emptying the interior. For drawers, it helps to fully remove them if possible, so you can clean them more easily outside the main unit.

For cleaning tools, I often use a small vacuum cleaner with a narrow nozzle or a handheld vacuum. This allows you to reliably remove a lot of dust. For corners and hard-to-reach spots, small brushes with soft synthetic bristles work well—you won’t scratch the surfaces but can loosen dust from edges and trim.

After that, I use slightly damp microfiber cloths to pick up any remaining dust. Make sure the cloth is only lightly moistened, not wet, since moisture can damage wood-based materials like those used in Pax.

Finally, I recommend leaving doors and drawers open to allow good air circulation so the surfaces can dry quickly.

If you prefer a different order or want to ask about specific areas, feel free to ask!

Vacuum cleaner with a narrow nozzle, followed by a damp microfiber cloth. Remove drawers if possible and clean them separately. Use a brush for corners.

Exactly! I got myself a tiny paintbrush for this purpose – basically my "dust buster" 🖌️. It works great for getting into the small corners of the Pax unit. And when the drawers are out, vacuum them with the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Afterwards, wipe them down with a light spray of water mixed with a bit of vinegar or very diluted dish soap! It’s really satisfying when everything sparkles clean.

I recommend doing this with some relaxing music in the background to make the task less tedious 😉.

I think the whole TEDx "How clean are furniture really?" thing is a bit over the top. Sure, there’s dust, but if you start chasing every single dust particle while cleaning, you’ll get lost in obsessive details.

My advice: Regularly ventilate the room and maybe do a quick vacuuming inside with a brush attachment every two months – that’s enough. If you turn your wardrobe into a sterile museum, you’ll just end up frustrated.

Dust inside a wardrobe is completely normal, and simple measures are usually enough to keep the indoor air comfortable. So don’t overdo it, approach the situation with some calm!
