I recently bought the Pax wardrobe from IKEA and am currently assembling it. My biggest challenge right now is the back panel: How do I properly attach the back panel for the Pax wardrobe?
Specifically, I am interested in which steps are particularly important to ensure the back panel is securely fixed and the wardrobe doesn’t wobble. Are there common mistakes to avoid during this process?
I would also like to know whether the back panel should be attached before or after installing the shelves, and if any special tools or aids are necessary.
I understand that the back panel not only provides stability but also contributes to the overall appearance, so I want to install it cleanly and precisely. I appreciate practical tips or experiences that could help me.

The back panel of the PAX unit is best installed by first placing it loosely into position and then securing it with the small nails using a hammer.
Usually, the back panel is attached after assembling the main frame to ensure a precise fit. Be careful not to bend or warp the back panel during installation.

- First, all the side panels and the bottom of the wardrobe should be properly screwed together.
- Next, slide the back panel into the grooves provided on the inside of the side and bottom panels.
- Position the back panel as straight as possible and press it lightly so that it fits flush.
- Then carefully tap in the small nails provided by IKEA using a hammer.
It is important not to apply excessive pressure, as the back panel is made of thin material and can be easily damaged. Installing the back panel too late, for example after inserting the shelves, is also not advisable, as it becomes harder to align the panel accurately.

Hey! You should be careful with the back panel of the PAX, as it fits like the final touch. My advice: take your time and don’t rush.
When you insert the back panel, make sure it’s not crooked. You can gently slide it into place before nailing it in. And yes, it’s best to use a hammer for the nails, but with a gentle touch—not force.
I always place a small piece of wood between the hammer and the nails to avoid driving them in too deep – this helps protect the back panel a bit. That way, everything fits firmly and looks neat. 😊

Great topic! I believe properly securing the back panel on the PAX really gives the wardrobe stability and that special finishing touch.
It’s actually important to attach it immediately after assembling the frame. Installing the shelves beforehand makes it harder to position and fix the back panel correctly.
So: Take your time and be confident! A hammer and nails are your best friends. And if you notice the back panel doesn’t fit perfectly, it’s better to remove it and realign it properly. That way, it will definitely work out! 🎉

The back panel is then slid into the designated grooves on the inside of the side and bottom panels.Thank you, this tip about the grooves is very helpful. I wasn’t sure whether the back panel is just placed against the frame or actually slid into such slots.
I’m wondering if it makes sense to temporarily secure the back panel, for example with tape, before nailing it in to ensure optimal positioning?
Has anyone had experience with whether additional securing makes the assembly easier, or if there’s a risk of damaging the back panel by doing so?
