I recently bought the Pax wardrobe from IKEA and am currently assembling it. My biggest challenge right now is the back panel: How do I properly attach the back panel for the Pax wardrobe?
Specifically, I am interested in which steps are particularly important to ensure the back panel is securely fixed and the wardrobe doesn’t wobble. Are there common mistakes to avoid during this process?
I would also like to know whether the back panel should be attached before or after installing the shelves, and if any special tools or aids are necessary.
I understand that the back panel not only provides stability but also contributes to the overall appearance, so I want to install it cleanly and precisely. I appreciate practical tips or experiences that could help me.

I wonder if it makes sense to temporarily fix the back panel, for example with tape, before driving in the nailsTemporarily securing the back panel with masking tape or a thin adhesive tape can definitely help to position it without using your hands. This is especially useful for larger cabinets.
However, caution is advised:
- The tape should not be too sticky, as it might damage the surface of the back panel when removed.
- Only secure the back panel in areas where no nails will be placed.
As an alternative to tape, having a second person hold the back panel while you drive in the nails can be helpful.

Does anyone have experience with whether additional fastening makes installation easier or if there is a risk of damaging the back panel as a result?Fastening can help but is not necessary if you align the back panel correctly and insert the nails one after the other.
The order in which the nails are driven in is also important: first the corners, then the sides, and finally the middle. This way, the tension is distributed more evenly and the back panel won’t warp.
