Hello everyone, I recently purchased an IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet and now face the question of how to properly attach the Metod doors with integrated handles. I especially want to ensure that the door is precisely aligned and that no damage occurs to the door front or the frame during installation.

I understand that handle-free doors are mounted differently compared to traditional doors with handles. Could you please explain in detail which screws or brackets I should use exactly and the best way to fit the door to achieve a clean result? Are there any helpful tips for fine-tuning the door so that the opening of the integrated handle remains comfortable and nothing rubs or sticks?

I look forward to your expert feedback!

The installation of IKEA Metod doors with recessed handles generally follows the standard procedure, where the hinges mounted on the back of the door are hooked into the cabinet frame. Important points to note:

- Use the appropriate Metod hinges with soft-close function, if available.
- The recessed handle does not affect the mounting system, as the door opening is located inside the front panel.
- First, screw the hinges onto the door, paying attention to the tightening torque to avoid damaging the wood.
- Then, hook the hinges into the corresponding slots in the cabinet frame.

For alignment:

- Use the adjustment options on the hinges (height, depth, side adjustment).
- Check that the recessed handle does not rub against the cabinet frame or adjacent doors.

Fine adjustments should be made carefully with a screwdriver to prevent damage to the door front and frame.

Simply screw the hinges onto the door, then hang it on the cabinet body. Afterwards, adjust the door: use a screwdriver to fine-tune the side and height until the door sits flush and the handle recess remains unobstructed.

That sums it up well. I would like to add that with the recessed handle design, it is particularly important to maintain the exact gap to the cabinet frame, as this is the only way the recessed handle remains ergonomically functional. You should definitely check the height with a spirit level and not rely on visual alignment alone. Alternatively, if available, you can use the included plastic spacers for initial positioning. This prevents unnecessary pressure after tightening the screws.

One more tip for adjustment: For Metod doors with recessed handles, it is advisable to attach the hinge cover only at the very end. This way, you have the best access to all the adjustment screws during fine tuning and can set the door with millimeter precision.

Also, make sure that the hinge screws are always tightened firmly enough to prevent the door from loosening during use. An assistant, such as a second person, is often helpful during the rough installation of the doors.

I find this topic really fascinating! 🤩 At first, I had quite a bit of trouble perfectly aligning the recessed handle doors because the recess is so delicate and any misalignment was immediately noticeable. My insider tip: After hanging the door, secure it with tape and then open and close it several times to identify where it sticks. Then adjust the screws accordingly. You can immediately tell where the adjustment is still needed!

And definitely keep an upright posture while adjusting – it’s quicker than you think!
