Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of installing an Ikea Pax wardrobe under a sloped ceiling and would like to ask about proven methods for this. The main concern is how to properly adjust the side panels and the back panel to fit the slope so that the wardrobe stands stable without wobbling or looking awkward.

What experiences do you have with assembling the Pax under sloped ceilings? Are there any special tips for adjusting the measurements, fitting the doors, and securing the unit to the wall?

I would appreciate detailed advice, including recommendations on tools or assembly steps that should definitely be followed.

Thank you in advance to everyone who shares their expertise!

Wow, this is an exciting project! Patience definitely paid off for me!

My experience: Measure the slope carefully at the beginning (even multiple times!) and work slowly and precisely.

I had to hold the individual back panel parts in place with clamps to prevent them from shifting while screwing them together. For the doors, I smoothed the edges with sandpaper after trimming them with a jigsaw.

Sure, it takes some time, but once it’s finished – so cool 😊

How do you properly redirect the back wall when installing it in sections?

Sometimes I wonder why people make it so complicated. Just divide the back wall into segments, cut them according to the slope, then connect them with brackets, done.

And does anyone have a recommendation on how to shorten or modify doors so they still function properly?

I would recommend trimming doors as little as possible. Better to leave the top part open. Doors tend to perform poorly if they are roughly altered—this affects the mechanism.

Here is a summary so far:

For the side panels, it is recommended to carefully measure the slope with a protractor and then cut precisely using a jigsaw or miter saw.

For the back panel, a segmented installation is advisable, using individual board sections connected with brackets to accommodate the slope while maintaining stability.

The doors can be shortened carefully with a jigsaw, but hinges or guide rails might need to be adjusted afterward. Alternatively, the top section can be left open or fitted with shelves.

Regarding wall mounting: use strong anchors in load-bearing parts, consider adjustable mounting brackets for slightly angled walls, and use spacers where needed.

If you have any additional practical tips or common pitfalls to share, please do!

A few more:

- Take your time with cutting; measuring multiple times can save a lot of frustration later.
- Don’t cut directly on the angle; leave a 1–2 mm (0.04–0.08 inch) tolerance for small adjustments.
- Don’t rush the installation of the back panel—it’s important for several reasons; if it’s not fitted precisely, it affects the overall stability.
- When attaching the doors, make sure the hinges are properly adjusted (Ikea provides adjustment screws for this).
- If the wall is very uneven or slanted, small shims at the mounting points can work wonders.

Good luck!
