Hello everyone, I am planning to attach several Ikea Platsa shelves to the existing wooden panels in my home office. The panels are relatively thin, about 12 mm (0.5 inches) thick, and serve as wall cladding, which I do not want to damage. Although the Platsa modules are flexible in terms of installation, I am unsure how to securely and stably fix the shelves to the wooden panels without them eventually falling off or damaging the panels themselves. Does anyone have practical experience with mounting Platsa shelves on wood-paneled walls? Which screws, anchors, or other fastening methods would you recommend, especially regarding load capacity? I look forward to your tips and to hearing which solutions have proven successful for you.

Do you think using old wood, panels, and battens will be durable in the long term, or is it better to renovate the wall completely?

Renovating the wall can definitely be the most long-lasting and reliable option, especially when it comes to stability and load-bearing capacity.

However, not everyone wants or is able to tear down and rebuild large sections of the wall. In such cases, reinforcement battens provide the best compromise.

Important points:
- The battens must be fixed so that they transfer the load to the supporting material.
- Screws need to penetrate deeply enough into the load-bearing studs or beams.
- Materials and screws need to be chosen to suit the conditions (e.g., stainless steel wood screws for more humid rooms).

Additionally, it is important to follow the installation instructions closely, as certain components and fittings will only be secure if installed correctly.

My advice: Check carefully on site where additional support is possible and aim for a continuous substructure as much as possible. The extra effort is worth it for safety and durability.
