Hello everyone, I am currently planning to upgrade my Ikea Pax wardrobes with new doors, but I definitely want to avoid drilling since the wardrobes are rented and I don’t want to leave any holes. Therefore, I am looking for reliable methods to securely and stably attach Ikea Pax doors without using a drill or screws directly on the carcass. Ideally, the solution should be easy to install while ensuring the doors function properly—opening and closing smoothly. Has anyone had experience with alternatives to drilling, such as adhesive systems, tension locks, special clips, or mounting rails? Are there any recommendations that hold up well over time, even with regular use of the doors? I would really appreciate constructive tips or pointers to proven solutions.

For Ikea Pax doors without drilling, I strongly recommend using strong 3M adhesive tapes or special assembly adhesives suitable for furniture. Alternatively, there are hinge clips that can be clipped on, but these are not always suitable for heavy doors with glass or MDF. It is important to check the weight of the doors in advance.

I would like to add: In principle, using strong adhesive tapes or assembly-friendly glues is a practical solution, but there are several important factors to consider to ensure a long-lasting fix. First, the surface of the Pax carcasses is usually smooth and melamine-coated, which can significantly affect the adhesive strength. Therefore, it is advisable to thoroughly clean all bonding surfaces with isopropanol to remove grease and dust before applying the adhesive.

Second, the stability also depends on the weight and size of the doors. Especially large fronts can sag or detach more quickly if the adhesive solution is not designed to handle the load. In such cases, special mounting plates can be attached to the door and mechanically secured with tension clips or rails to distribute the weight evenly.

Third, I recommend letting the door dry for at least 24 hours before final use and avoiding any stress during this time. Besides adhesive solutions, there are also clamping or tension systems that grip the carcass without drilling, usually involving aluminum rails inserted along the interior edges. However, these systems require a bit more DIY skill and precise measurements.

Could you specify the weight and dimensions of your doors, and whether additional weight (for example, from mirrors or glass) is applied to the fronts? This information would help to better assess the best option.

I agree and would like to add a critical note here: The idea of installing Ikea Pax doors mainly with adhesive tape or mounting adhesive without drilling has its limitations. The long-term durability of such methods is often overestimated. Especially for cabinet doors that are opened and closed daily, there is increased stress on the attachment points. In practice, this often leads to premature failure of the adhesive bond.

For me, the question arises whether a clip-like system or so-called "hook-like" mechanisms might provide better results. While these solutions are somewhat more complex to install, they avoid damage to the cabinet carcass and offer mechanical fixing that is easier to maintain or adjust.

Has anyone already had practical experience with such mechanical, non-drilling mounting aids? I think it is important not to underestimate the physical limits of adhesive systems.
