Hello everyone,

I have the following issue: I want to install IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet doors, but I find the visible screws on the hinges quite unattractive. Is there a way to attach the Metod doors so that no screws are visible from the outside? I’m not only concerned about a clean look but also about stability and everyday usability.

I’ve heard that there are different methods in the industry to mount doors almost invisibly, such as special fittings or concealed screws. Are there any solutions like this for Metod?

Maybe someone here has experience or can offer tips on how to install doors neatly without visible screws. Thanks in advance for your advice!

There are so-called invisible hinges that are installed entirely inside the door and the cabinet frame. However, these are not always compatible with IKEA Metod. An alternative is handleless doors with a push-to-open mechanism, which eliminates the need for visible handles and screws.

Otherwise, the only option is to drill and screw more narrowly from the inside, hidden behind the inner side of the door.

Hello onmin,

I would like to answer your question in more detail, as the topic of door installation without visible screws offers quite a few options, especially with IKEA Metod.

1. Use of concealed hinges:
- IKEA Metod typically uses hinges where the screws remain visible inside the hinge.
- However, there are concealed hinges (also called "clip-on" or "push" hinges) designed so that the screws are hidden behind the door.
- Important: These are not compatible with every IKEA Metod cabinet; often, you need to purchase the hinges separately and adjust the furniture accordingly.

2. Mounting screws on the inside of the door:
- The classic method is to fasten screws from the inside of the door or cabinet body, so no screws are visible from the outside.
- Small cover caps in door color can also be used if any screws are slightly visible.

3. Use of fastening systems with groove profiles or clamping technique:
- Some users combine special profiles to clamp the doors in place.
- However, stability under heavy load is limited, so this is better suited for smaller doors.

4. Push-to-open mechanism and handleless design:
- By omitting handles and visible screws, a continuous front is created.
- This system requires fittings or adapters specifically designed for Metod.

A small warning about common mistakes:
- Some try to simply countersink screws or cover them with plugs. Visually, this only works to a limited extent.
- If the door is not perfectly aligned, the screws quickly become visible.

My tip: A short visit to an IKEA store for advice or studying the installation instructions for concealed hinges and special fittings can be very helpful.

I hope this helps you with your decision.

That is exactly the key to an elegant solution! I tried it myself – with the right concealed hinges, the front looks much cleaner. It feels like magic the first time you close a door and don’t see any screws.

That’s also a great idea, especially if you want a minimalist style. For the installation, I would still strongly recommend making sure the door fits perfectly – otherwise, the push-to-open function can suffer, and that gets annoying quickly.

My little tip from experience: pay close attention to the quality of the hinges – sometimes cheap clips can be tricky to adjust, but once everything is set up, you’ll appreciate the clean look every time.😊

And for everyone who wants to see absolutely zero screws: you can often install cover strips or panels at the bottom inside the cabinet to hide small screws as well.
