Hello everyone,

I recently assembled an IKEA Metod kitchen base unit and am now at the stage of fitting the doors. I noticed that some doors do not close flush, resulting in uneven gaps and sometimes even the doors touching each other. My specific question is: How do I properly attach IKEA Metod doors so that they close flush?

I used the supplied Metod hinges and have already tried adjusting the hinge screws multiple times. However, the doors still seem to sit either too far forward or too far back—probably due to the adjustment.

Are there any tips or technical advice on how to achieve precise alignment? Do you possibly need special shims or additional adjustments?

I would greatly appreciate any tips or advice, as I want to avoid the doors remaining misaligned or becoming damaged.

Best regards

You can adjust the doors on the Metod hinges as follows:

- The screws on the side adjust the depth (forward/backward)
- The screws at the base of the hinge adjust the height
- The central screw adjusts the lateral alignment

With a bit of patience, you can get the doors completely flush.

To add to this, I would like to offer a brief step-by-step guide on how to align Ikea Metod doors flush:

1. First, screw the Metod hinges in completely, but leave them loose enough to move the doors.
2. Turn the side screws (usually the larger front screw on the hinge) to adjust the door depth. This is the most important step to get the fronts flush.
3. Then adjust the height using the screws that secure the hinge to the cabinet frame.
4. Finally, use the lateral adjustment screw for fine-tuning to achieve an even gap between the doors.

A common mistake is tightening the screws too much before the door is properly aligned – this makes corrections more difficult.

If the doors are still not completely flush, placing thin plastic or foam strips behind the hinges can help compensate for small height differences. Be careful, though, not to impair the hinge function.

In summary: Adjusting the hinges requires precise work on several screws and some patience, but it usually allows very accurate alignment of Metod doors.

This is really a crucial point. Additionally, I would say that doors should be checked for warping before starting the actual adjustments. A warped door can only be aligned flush to a limited extent.

I also recommend adjusting the individual hinges in the correct order: depth → height → lateral alignment. This ensures that after each adjustment, previous settings are not lost by further changes.

Finally, pay close attention to the quality of the hinges: Ikea generally provides good hinges, but defects or manufacturing tolerances in individual hinges can also cause fitting problems.

If you keep these points in mind, Metod doors can be aligned very precisely.
