Hello everyone,
I recently purchased the IKEA Metod kitchen fronts and am now facing the challenge of mounting the doors as quietly as possible. Specifically, I want to avoid the usual rattling noises or loud slamming of the cabinet doors without having to buy new door soft-close mechanisms or undertake complicated modifications.

I am using the standard cup hinges from IKEA, but the damping doesn’t always seem sufficient, especially with frequent use.

I would really appreciate any tips on how to mount the Metod cabinet doors quietly—what to pay attention to during installation, possible tricks to improve the damping, or if there are alternative solutions regarding the fittings.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Hello,

You can make doors quieter by adjusting the concealed hinges and applying self-adhesive felt or rubber strips at the contact points. The dampers are also available as replacement parts at IKEA. Simply install them, and the noise will be significantly reduced.

Hello KAUPAU,

to answer your question accurately, it is important to know how you have currently installed the doors. The IKEA Metod fronts use the classic concealed hinges, which usually come with built-in soft closers, but their effectiveness highly depends on proper adjustment.

Here is what you can check step by step:

- Check the door alignment: The hinges have adjustment screws for fine-tuning in depth, height, and sideways. Proper adjustment ensures the door does not slam against the cabinet when closing.

- Inspect the soft closers themselves: Some models have integrated soft closers, others do not. If your hinges don’t have soft closers installed, you can retrofit them. IKEA offers so-called "soft closing" hinges.

- Self-adhesive soft pads or felt strips can be applied to the door frame or inside the cabinet to minimize residual noise.

- Make sure the hinges are securely screwed in, as loose screws can increase noise.

- For particularly loud or rattling doors, a small amount of silicone grease on the hinge joints can help.

I would also be interested to know if you are using the classic Metod concealed hinges or possibly another version. That would help to give more targeted advice.

Additionally, check whether the door hangs straight or if it wobbles slightly due to its own weight – this can cause significant noise.

Hello KAUPAU,

I understand how annoying unwanted noises from kitchen doors can be. I experienced the same issue when I installed my Metod doors.

What helped me was simply taking some time to carefully adjust the hinges. Sometimes we are too quick to be satisfied and overlook that a screw might be slightly loose or the angle isn't quite right. I was also unsure whether I needed better dampers, but often a small adjustment is enough.

Don’t worry, it’s normal if it’s not perfect right away – sometimes slowly opening and closing the doors several times helps everything settle.

Maybe you could try this too? Best wishes and good luck!

Hello KAUPAU,

"How do I silence IKEA Metod cabinet doors?" – a question that has probably kept some of us awake at night. 😉

Here’s what I did: I applied some self-adhesive felt pads (yes, the kind you put under chairs) to the edges of the doors, right where the cabinet door meets the furniture. This greatly reduces noise.

And a quick tip: When you finely adjust the hinges, make sure the door sits perfectly flush; this takes the strain off the dampers.

A few extra tricks:
- Apply silicone grease to the hinges for smoother movement
- Check the hinge dampers, sometimes they’re worn out and need replacing

So – good luck! Hope you manage to put an end to the noise soon!

May I critically ask: How often is the recommendation to simply use "soft closing" hinges really the best solution for silent closing? If the main noise is caused by misalignment or poor adjustment, retrofitting alone cannot fix the root cause.

I think it would be more sensible to first check the basic installation and adjustment before replacing parts. Additionally, I wonder: Are there reliable user experiences on which of the currently available hinges for Metod are most dependable in terms of noise reduction?

It would also be interesting to know whether the noise mainly comes from the door closing against the carcass or from the damper itself – as this can require completely different approaches depending on the cause.
