Hello everyone,

I recently ordered several Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet doors and am now facing the challenge of installing them so that they close as quietly as possible and ensure long-lasting durability. This involves not only the correct mounting of the doors on the hinges but also possible improvements, such as installing soft-close dampers or other practical adjustments.

I am especially interested in how to adjust the doors so they operate without creaking or squeaking, and what is important to prevent the hinges and fittings from loosening over time.

Are there proven methods or helpful tips for choosing the right fasteners, precisely aligning the doors, or maintaining the hardware?

I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Common mistakes include:
- Over-tightening screws, which can lead to material fatigue
- Neglecting the dampers, which often need to be ordered separately

Thanks for the detailed overview! I was particularly worried about over-tightening the screws since the plastic parts can be easily damaged.

Is there a way to get a feel for the right torque when tightening, or perhaps tools that can be set to prevent overloading?

Also, I would like to know if simply snapping the dampers into place is stable enough, or if they should be secured additionally, for example with adhesive?

I want to avoid the dampers falling off over time due to frequent use.

Yes, the correct torque is crucial here. Standard cordless screwdrivers are often set too high, so I recommend using a screwdriver you can control by feel, or a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque settings.

The Metod screws are made of plastic and metal; overtightening can quickly cause cracks.

Ikea dampers are designed for simple snap-in installation and hold very well if installed correctly. For older or cheaper retrofit dampers, a drop of assembly adhesive can help, but it is usually unnecessary if the surface is clean.

For silent closing, it also helps to regularly clean and lightly oil the hinges. This prevents wear and squeaking.
