KRISTIJAND12 Feb 2015 18:17Hello everyone,
I recently ordered several Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet doors and am now facing the challenge of installing them so that they close as quietly as possible and ensure long-lasting durability. This involves not only the correct mounting of the doors on the hinges but also possible improvements, such as installing soft-close dampers or other practical adjustments.
I am especially interested in how to adjust the doors so they operate without creaking or squeaking, and what is important to prevent the hinges and fittings from loosening over time.
Are there proven methods or helpful tips for choosing the right fasteners, precisely aligning the doors, or maintaining the hardware?
I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Hi,
for silent doors, you should adjust the hinges carefully by making small corrections on all three adjustment screws.
Additionally, you can often install extra dampers on the hinges; the springs or rubber buffers are usually available from Ikea itself.
Regularly tightening the screws helps to extend the lifespan.

Hello,
to install Ikea Metod doors as quietly and durably as possible, I recommend the following systematic approach:
- Installation: Use the original Metod hinges from Ikea, as they fit the system perfectly and offer optimal adjustment options.
- Adjustment: The hinges have three adjustment screws:
- Depth adjustment (for the distance to the cabinet interior)
- Height adjustment
- Side adjustment
Each screw can be turned slightly to align the door precisely and avoid pressure marks.
- Damping: It is common to use soft-close dampers that simply clip onto the hinges. These prevent slamming and reduce noise.
- Maintenance: Make sure to check the screws every few months and tighten them if necessary, as screws can loosen under load, causing noise and wear.
Common mistakes are:
- Over-tightening the screws, which can lead to material fatigue
- Neglecting the dampers, which often need to be ordered separately
Summary: Using original hinges, precise adjustment, soft-close dampers, and regular inspections will keep the doors quiet and the mechanism durable.

Hello Kristijand,
I would like to add some basics, as understanding the hinge function is especially important with Ikea Metod.
The hinges are so-called eccentric and clip-on hinges that simply snap onto the cabinet body. For quiet operation, two things are important:
- Proper adjustment using the three screws, which each affect the depth, height, and lateral position of the door. You can finely align the door step by step here.
- Additionally, I recommend installing self-adhesive silicone or felt bumpers on the inside of the door, where the door meets the cabinet frame. This significantly reduces metallic noise when closing.
Regarding durability, make sure the screws are tightened well and avoid applying excessive force when closing. Also, a drop of oil on the moving parts of the hinges can prevent squeaking.
Sometimes doors rub because the cabinet is not completely level. So also check the cabinet installation.
I hope this helps you!

In addition to the previous responses, I would like to clarify the following:
- Selecting the correct screws and their length is essential. Use only the manufacturer-recommended Metod screws to avoid material damage.
- Check the hinge mounts to ensure they properly snap into the designated holes. A hinge that is not correctly seated can cause noise and clicking sounds.
- For quiet operation, the installation of soft-close mechanisms is recommended, which are often compatible with the Metod system. When retrofitting parts, be sure to verify compatibility.
- During installation, make sure no stresses are placed on the doors. A misaligned door not only causes noise but also increases wear on hinges and fastenings.
In summary: precise installation, high-quality components, soft-close dampers, and regular maintenance are the key combination for quiet, durable Metod doors.
