ᐅ How do I install IKEA Metod cabinet doors to achieve an even alignment?

danla38Hello everyone,
I recently started installing an IKEA Metod kitchen and now face the challenge of attaching the cabinet doors so that they are perfectly aligned. My problem is that despite multiple adjustments, the doors still appear slightly offset or crooked, which is especially noticeable when several doors are installed side by side and disrupts the overall appearance.
I have already used the built-in adjustment mechanisms of the hinges, but the doors often don’t sit flush with each other. Are there specific tips or installation methods that can help with this? How do you ensure that the doors are mounted exactly parallel and at the same height?
I would appreciate detailed advice and recommendations, especially regarding tools or helpful aids that can make this process easier. Thank you in advance!

First, it is important to ensure that all base cabinets are installed completely level and even. An uneven foundation will automatically result in crooked doors.
- Start by precisely aligning all cabinet units and checking them with a spirit level.
- Use the screws on the Metod hinges for fine adjustment in three axes: height, depth, and lateral position.
- Adjust each door individually at first by modifying the top and bottom hinge attachments.
- After each adjustment, check the door alignment in relation to the neighboring doors.
- When dealing with multiple doors side by side, it helps to hang all doors completely first, then adjust them step by step so they do not interfere with each other.
As tools, I recommend, besides a good spirit level, also a narrow square or ruler to evenly check the gaps between the doors. Sometimes a magnifying glass can be useful to spot small gap differences. Patience is key here.

I know that feeling all too well! My advice: take your time and first align the cabinets precisely. That makes it much easier to get the doors perfectly straight.
That’s exactly what helped me the most. Also, follow the sequence carefully, otherwise you’ll go crazy 🙂
In the end, you can check the gaps best using a thin ruler or even your hand to see if everything is even. It’s really worth taking the time to work carefully so the entire build looks flawless. Good luck!

- Always adjust from bottom to top to prevent sagging.
- Use small cardboard spacers between the doors to accurately measure and maintain the gaps.
- Don’t tighten the screws too much at first; finalize the alignment before fully securing them.
And if it doesn’t work right away: sometimes it really helps to readjust with fresh eyes the next day. Thanks to everyone here for the valuable tips!
