Hello everyone,
I recently fitted my kitchen with Ikea Metod cabinets and am now facing the challenge of mounting the doors so that they are both stable and close smoothly. By this, I mean the doors should neither wobble nor fit too loosely after installation, and I want them to close softly and quietly rather than slamming.
I understand that Metod doors have special hinges and that adjusting these hinges is crucial. However, I have read that sometimes additional measures are needed, such as securing the screws better or further adjusting the hinges to ensure a firm hold.
I am interested in:
- How can I best attach the Ikea Metod doors so they are firmly and securely mounted?
- How do I properly adjust the hinges to achieve soft and damped closing?
- Are there any proven tips or tools that go beyond the standard installation?
I look forward to detailed answers from experienced users. Thank you in advance!

In addition to all the good tips here, I recommend pre-adjusting the hinges during installation so that the doors are properly aligned without any stress.
A common mistake is to hang the doors first and only adjust them later. This often results in misaligned doors or poor damping.
If your Metod doors do not have soft-close fittings, you can purchase and install individual dampers separately, which significantly improves the closing.

I would like to add: If the doors wobble after installation, simply tighten the hinges a bit and check the adjustment. Sometimes the hinges are just slightly loose.
The soft-close mechanism works best on doors that hang perfectly straight. Therefore, use the adjustment screws to set them properly.
