Hello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble an Ikea PAX wardrobe in my bedroom. Unfortunately, the floor in the room is not completely level and has some slight unevenness. My question is: How do you install Ikea PAX wardrobes on uneven floors to ensure that the wardrobe stands securely and stably, without rocking or appearing crooked? Are there any special techniques, tools, or adjustments to consider? So far, I have only the standard Ikea instructions, which give little guidance regarding uneven floors. I would appreciate any practical advice.

This will be great, you can do it! 🙂 I also had issues with my floor and used rubber feet with swivel capability. Also: Be sure to secure the cabinet to the wall – it provides stability! Good luck!

If the unevenness is too large, it can be helpful to use small wooden shims or furniture wedges under the feet as a base.

Thanks for the tip, using wedges sounds logical. Which materials work best to prevent slipping or damage? And how thick can the wedges be before they become unstable?

The best options are sturdy hardwood wedges or plastic wedges designed specifically for furniture, featuring non-slip bottoms. Avoid softwood, as it may compress over time. The thickness of the wedges should be enough to keep the legs stable without tilting or overstretching—ideally around 10-15 mm (0.4-0.6 inches) to maintain sufficient contact surface.

As an addition: It is important to consider the total weight of the cabinet in relation to the size of the shims. Shims that are too thick, especially if made of soft material, can deform and cause wobbling over time.

Accurate measurement with a spirit level and adjustment of the adjustable feet remains the best method for a long-lasting solution.

I recommend placing a carpet or felt pad under the cabinet feet before assembly to help even out the surface slightly. This cushioning reduces minor unevenness and protects the floor. It also makes it easier to adjust the feet, as the cabinet does not sit directly on the floor.

However, this does not replace precise adjustment of the feet and should be considered a supplementary measure.

From my own experience: I used felt pads combined with small wooden wedges. The felt pads provide grip on smooth floors and prevent scratches. This perfectly stabilized my cabinet without the wedges slipping.
