Hello everyone,
I am facing the challenge of installing an Ikea PAX wardrobe system in my apartment on a rather uneven wooden floor. It is important to me that I do not damage either the furniture or the floor during installation. The floor has some filled dents and small irregular spots that will likely become noticeable during assembly.
My question is: How can I install the Ikea PAX on uneven floors to
- avoid damage to the floor,
- keep the furniture stable and level,
- and ensure long-term load capacity?
I have already considered possible underlays or special feet but am uncertain which methods are technically sensible and practical. I would greatly appreciate tips, experience, and advice. Strategies that Ikea itself doesn’t necessarily recommend would be especially interesting.
Thank you in advance!

Good morning Florentmin,
Regarding your questions:
1. Rubber floor pads are often available as self-adhesive pads, about 3-5 mm (0.1-0.2 inches) thick and 3-4 cm (1.2-1.6 inches) in diameter. They are soft enough to cushion minor unevenness but firm enough to stabilize the cabinet. I recommend the type designed for furniture, which are commonly sold for protecting floors.
2. Replacing the feet is usually straightforward: the standard Pax feet are either screwed on or attached by pushing them in. Adjustable feet often have a screw for fine-tuning the height. A screwdriver (Phillips or flathead) is often sufficient; sometimes, for special models, an Allen key is needed, which Ikea typically includes.
3. Securing the cabinet to the floor on uneven surfaces should be approached with caution. It can help stabilize the cabinet and prevent wobbling, but the floor should be leveled as much as possible beforehand so that the pressure is not focused on just a few points, which could damage the floor.
I hope this gives you more confidence in your planning.

- First, check the exact unevenness of the floor using a spirit level or a long straightedge.
- For leveling, it is recommended to use height-adjustable furniture feet with sufficient load capacity and precise adjustability.
- Wooden wedges can be used additionally to compensate small dips locally; however, they should be securely fixed to prevent slipping and ensure stability.
- To protect the floor and maintain stability, I recommend using self-adhesive felt pads under the feet.
- If possible, place a thin plywood or multiplex board as a base, which better distributes the load and compensates for depressions.
- Avoid fixing the PAX units directly to the floor without any leveling, as this can cause stress that may damage both the furniture and the floor materials.
In conclusion: All adjustments should be carried out carefully to prevent consequential damage.
