Hello everyone, I am planning to install an Ikea Metod kitchen in a room with a sloped ceiling and am facing some challenges related to the slope. My specific question is: How can I best adapt the Metod kitchen cabinets to fit under a sloped ceiling in order to use the space efficiently and avoid issues like missing support surfaces or unused corners? I have already considered custom trims and special mounting methods but am unsure how to implement these with Ikea Metod – especially when it comes to integrating wall cabinets and drawers under the slope. Are there any proven tips for adapting standard kitchen units to the structural challenges of sloped ceilings? Thanks in advance for your support!

I did this myself using a good jigsaw, after making a template to ensure the cut was as precise as possible. It is important to smooth the cut edge with sandpaper afterwards and, if possible, apply edge banding to better protect the material and maintain its stability.

An important aspect when planning Metod kitchens under sloped ceilings is designing the wall cabinets. I recommend using adjustable height profiles that can be modified flexibly. This allows you to better accommodate the slope and reduces the effort required for installation. In general, I also suggest considering corner solutions with corner cabinets to make the most efficient use of the available space. When customizing the cabinet fronts to fit the slope, it may also be advisable to have doors or panels cut to size individually, possibly by a carpenter, since Ikea does not offer ready-made angled components.

I agree with that. Cutting them yourself is often not precise enough, so it’s better to consult a professional, especially when dealing with hinged doors to ensure they function properly.

I find it surprising how often people assume that IKEA kitchens are immediately suitable for every situation. Especially with sloping ceilings, the Metod system is only a limited solution – as the modules are rigid and offer little flexibility. For me, the logical approach is either ready-made corner solutions from specialized manufacturers or a fully custom kitchen design. The time and effort spent on adjustments often do not justify the outcome.

This is only true if the project is approached without prior planning. With systematic measurements, a good plan, and precise cutting, Metod elements can be well adapted to sloped ceilings. Key factors include: accurate angle measurements, custom-fit panels, sufficiently sturdy fastenings, and fronts adjusted according to preference.

Thank you very much for all the helpful tips. One last question: Does anyone have experience with integrating drawers under sloped ceilings, specifically with Metod? I imagine that the drawer fronts at the bottom edge are not usually angled. What is the best approach when the full height is limited by the slope above? Are there construction methods or tricks to make drawers fully usable in this situation, or is it better to use doors and pull-outs instead?
