Hello everyone,
I am currently assembling an Ikea Metod kitchen unit with drawers, but I’m having trouble because the drawers do not slide smoothly, and I’m not completely sure if the installation is correct. My specific question is: How do I install Ikea Metod drawers so that they slide easily while also being securely fixed?
During assembly, I attached the telescopic runners according to the instructions; however, I can feel a slight rubbing, and the drawer sticks a bit when opening. Are there any special tips or important details to ensure the runners work perfectly?
I look forward to advice on assembly precision, proper alignment, and whether lubricants or other aids are recommended. Thank you in advance for your support!

How exactly can I adjust the front panel in height or depth without having to dismantle the entire assembly?Good question!
The Ikea Metod drawer fronts come with adjustable fittings. Usually, you can make adjustments using small screws on the clips located at the back of the front panel:
- For height adjustment, you can loosen the two upper screws and slide the front panel up or down. Then tighten the screws again.
- Depth can be adjusted using another small screw located at the front on the side – move the front panel slightly forward or backward.
You can also unlock the clips themselves to remove the front panel completely, but this is usually not necessary for minor adjustments.
Regarding the drawer attachment to the runners, Ikea designs them to snap securely into place with a simple push – please check that both sides are properly engaged.
Good luck with the fine adjustment!
Hello everyone!
Just to be sure: If the drawers stick, do not force them – this can warp the drawer slides or damage the smooth-glide mechanism!
I tried that myself once and ended up having to realign the entire slide – really frustrating.
It also helps to completely remove the drawer, clean the slides, and then carefully reinstall it. Smooth operation often comes down to these small details!
Keep at it, it’s not rocket science, but attention to detail definitely pays off 😊

I really appreciate your detailed tips, especially for those dealing with this kind of thing for the first time.
Remeo, I can understand well that it all seems a bit confusing at first and can make you a little nervous when the drawers stick.
Your approach of going through the details together first is exactly right. I believe everyone experiences a bit of uncertainty when adjusting for the first time.
The best thing is to take a step back, double-check everything, and then carefully make the fine adjustments. That’s what makes the difference!
If it works well for you, I’m sure others here will benefit too, and your thread will be a great help for many.

I can only agree with the others!
A little insider tip from me: If you really want to achieve maximum smoothness, ideally use a very fine silicone-based spray lubricant – but only very sparingly!
Make sure to apply the spray only to the metal parts of the guide rails, definitely not on the plastic sliding components, otherwise they will stick quickly and the drawer will actually become harder to move. Trust me, I’ve tested this.
And very important: After spraying, pull the drawer fully out and push it back in several times so the lubricant spreads evenly. It will then feel almost like butter 😄
Good luck with the installation!
