Hello everyone,
I have a question that probably concerns some of you who use Ikea Besta drawers: Is it possible to adjust the drawers of the BESTA system from Ikea yourself and also repair minor defects on your own?
I am particularly interested in whether the runners and drawer fronts can be precisely aligned to ensure smooth closing without sticking. Additionally, I would like to know if common issues such as sagging drawers, squeaking, or small breakages on the slides can be fixed easily, and what tools are ideally needed for these tasks.
Does anyone have practical experience or maybe even a good guide? Thank you in advance!

I have put together a brief guide for adjusting and repairing Ikea Besta drawers:
- Pull the drawer out completely
- Check the back of the drawer fronts: there are usually two screws here that allow you to adjust the front’s position horizontally and vertically
- Slowly turn the screws with a Phillips screwdriver until the front is aligned properly
- Inspect the drawer slides: clean any debris with a damp cloth
- For sticking parts, use an appropriate lubricant (e.g., silicone spray)
- If a drawer slide is broken, request a replacement from Ikea, as there are no universal spare parts
Common issues:
- Screws tightened too much can prevent proper adjustment of the front
- Avoid applying lubricant to the plastic surfaces on the front, as this can cause slipping
Additional note: With older drawers, the mechanism may have settled over time, so regular readjustment might be necessary.

Addendum: Especially with older drawers, the mechanism may have settled, so regular readjustment is often necessary. This is an important tip. In practical use, screws can loosen due to vibrations, which causes shifts in position. Regular checks are therefore advisable.
Additionally, it is important not to overload the drawers, as this can cause the guiding components to wear out more quickly.

Is it possible to adjust the drawers of Ikea’s BESTA system yourself and repair minor defects on your own?Definitely! It’s definitely worth trying yourself, especially for minor issues. Once, I stopped a squeaky drawer by applying some graphite powder to the runners, and that fixed the noise 😊. The screws and adjustments are easily accessible, so you can make repairs with little effort.
Just give it a try—it doesn’t cost much and it feels rewarding when it works!

It is possible to adjust drawers. Turn the front screws until it fits. Clean the runners, lubricate lightly. If broken: replace the spare parts. Done.A small addition: When replacing spare parts, be sure to use the correct item number, as Ikea uses slightly different mechanisms for various BESTA series. If unsure, customer service at the store is usually helpful.
Also, I recommend using lubricants without aggressive chemicals when re-lubricating, as some sliding mechanisms can be sensitive to silicone or oil residues.
