ᐅ How can IKEA Brimnes drawers be made silent?

Hello everyone, I have had a small issue with my IKEA Brimnes drawers for some time: opening and closing them is unfortunately not very quiet, but rather somewhat loud and creaky. This creates a disturbing noise, especially in the evening or at night due to the drawer sound. My question is, how can the IKEA Brimnes drawers be made effectively and as quietly as possible? Are there specific technical or mechanical measures that can be applied without completely changing the entire construction? I would really appreciate concrete tips or personal experiences, especially from anyone familiar with these drawers and ideas for noise reduction.

Hi everyone, I’m jumping in with a casual comment: making Brimnes drawers quieter? Sure, it’s a bit of a challenge – and usually it’s the small things that help.

I just stuck fine felt pads under the sides of my drawers. It was cheap and easy. No idea if it’s technically perfect, but the result = significantly less noise.

For all the night owls like me who like to quietly grab a snack, it’s a whole different level compared to a speaker concert. So, definitely worth a try!

Maybe combining it with a small damper could help, but for me, this is enough for now. Good luck to all the noise-reduction testers!

Attach felt strips to the edges, apply PTFE spray to the tracks, and retighten the screws. Retrofit soft-close dampers if possible.

The Brimnes drawers do not have built-in soft-close, which is now standard in other IKEA models.

I actually suspected that the lack of damping was the main issue here. Thanks for the tip about the soft-close adapters.

Do you think these adapters are universally compatible, or should I look specifically for models made for my Brimnes series?

Also, I’m interested if anyone has experience sealing the contact surfaces (e.g., felt versus foam rubber) and which durable solution you would recommend.

I’m looking for a practical solution that won’t start slipping or falling off after some time.

I was able to retrofit soft-close dampers on my Brimnes drawers with universal ones, but there are small differences to consider regarding the drawer height and depth.

From my own experience, felt strips hold up better than foam rubber because they swell less and don’t shift as easily. You can also secure the strips with double-sided tape. However, the surface should be cleaned thoroughly before applying them; otherwise, they won’t stick well. It’s also important that the strips aren’t too wide or thick to avoid jamming the drawer.

Soft-close dampers or felt strips – a combination of both is usually the best solution.

Soft-close prevents loud slamming, while felt reduces the remaining rattling.

And very important: always align the drawer slides properly. During assembly, I have often found that slight misalignment is the cause of excessive noise.
