Hello everyone, I am currently exploring how to use the Ikea PAX system as efficiently as possible for storing collections. This involves different types of collections, such as models, figurines, comics, or cards, all of which have specific requirements for protection, organization, and visibility. I am interested in how to optimally design the frames with drawers, shelves, and sliding doors in a modular way to ensure both dust protection and an attractive presentation. Are there any proven tips or clever modifications for configuring PAX effectively along these lines?

I wonder if PAX systems are often underestimated when it comes to their adaptability. That’s a good point. From my experience, the shelves can hold around 15 kg (33 lbs), so it makes sense to place heavier items on the lower shelves and reinforce the system with additional supports if needed. For particularly heavy collections, I recommend replacing certain shelves with stronger versions or using drawers specifically, as their mounting tends to be more robust. Regarding dust sealing, at least IKEA’s glass doors provide better protection, though perfect sealing is of course not achieved. A practical solution would be to additionally protect important items in display cases or foldable boxes.

Fastening and stability are essential for me as well, since there are also heavier parts in my collection. Does anyone here use special solutions to reinforce the PAX system, or have you used the IKEA accessories for that?

Sometimes just changing the door (for example, a glass door instead of wood) makes the whole unit look much more high-end.I agree, that’s very important – the presentation should fit the hobby. Some of you mentioned LED lighting – how have you implemented the lighting practically without too much effort or structural modifications?
