Hello everyone, I am planning to set up an Ikea Platsa unit as a wardrobe but am still unsure about the most effective way to organize it. The challenge is that I want to accommodate very different types of clothing – coats, jackets, scarves, hats, as well as shoes – all in one compact space that remains tidy and easily accessible. Additionally, I would be interested to know how to best combine the PLATSA components so that they are both visually appealing and functional. If anyone has tips on the best solutions for internal organization or which expansions offer specific advantages, I would really appreciate detailed experiences or suggestions. Thank you in advance!

I would definitely recommend using slim clothes rails and installing them at different heights. This way, you can make the best use of the space for jackets and coats. For shoes, the PLATSA bases with pull-out drawers work perfectly to save space and keep everything organized.

I can easily understand how challenging it is to keep things organized with such different items – especially in wardrobes, where it often gets messy and cluttered. What helped me was combining the PLATSA with baskets, where I store scarves and hats. This not only creates a clear overview but also makes the space feel a bit cozier. I know there isn’t a perfect solution, but these small aids make it much more manageable.

It’s interesting how everyone here is enthusiastically praising rails and baskets. But honestly, who really needs all these extra accessories? When it comes to a wardrobe, you should consider whether an open shelf with everything visible might be enough. In my opinion, the PLATSA is often overcomplicated by Ikea buyers – less fuss, more clarity. You can also stack individual large modules without building anything around them. Functional-wise, this is much more elegant, and the overall effect is more impressive.

I can understand karlau’s perspective, but personally, I need structure because at our home, chaos often breaks out with jackets and shoes. That’s why I got different inserts specifically for the PLATSA units that create more defined spaces. For example, I use dividers and small hooks inside to keep keys and scarves separate. This has made managing the wardrobe more convenient for me, especially when you’re frequently taking things in and out.

A different perspective: An Ikea PLATSA wardrobe can be adapted very creatively – for example, I combined it with a small bench that fits directly into the unit. This allows you to comfortably put on shoes without wasting extra space. Another great feature is the ability to combine different modules and coordinate colors – this turns the wardrobe into a unique focal point that visually opens up even small rooms. Pro tip: Use different door and front colors to design your wardrobe with variety and keep it well organized.
