Hello everyone, I have been considering how to use the Ikea PAX system efficiently for toy storage. In families with children, storage space is essential, but it also needs to be organized and easily accessible. I am especially interested in how to design the interior organization effectively – for example, with suitable shelves, drawers, or boxes – so that different types of toys (small building blocks, books, larger toys) can be sorted in a practical way. Are there any proven strategies or experiences on how to make storage with PAX space-saving and child-friendly? Tips on safety or stability are also welcome. Thanks in advance!

Hello Lokolen, your question is very well thought out and important because when it comes to toy storage, the combination of organization, accessibility, and child safety is crucial. I have used a PAX system in the kids' room myself and can share some tips:

- Use drawer inserts or colorful boxes to separate small items (for example, building blocks or figurines). This helps keep things organized and prevents everything from getting mixed up.
- Door panels or even sliding doors are helpful if the room is small and you want to keep the storage hidden.
- Larger toys can be stored well on open shelves or in baskets placed inside the wardrobe. This way, they are accessible but still tidy.
- Be sure to secure the PAX system to the wall. Especially with children pulling on it, there is a risk of tipping over.

There are also very flexible interior fittings available from the manufacturer if you want to customize the layout. I hope this helps!

This is really the most important point and is often underestimated. IKEA does provide this warning, but I still see it implemented only half-heartedly in many cases. A PAX wardrobe full of toys without secure wall anchoring is a safety hazard.

What I also find interesting is the discussion about the variety of interior solutions. You might think it’s just a matter of using boxes and that’s it – but I believe that’s an oversimplification. Different toys require different storage and sorting options, and the flexibility of the PAX system can be used to create modular solutions.

Personally, I prefer the small fabric baskets and drawers over rigid plastic boxes. They don’t just look more refined, but they are also easier to customize and wash. Of course, that is a matter of personal taste.

Simply install drawers, add white boxes or baskets, then create individual compartments with dividers. Attach everything to the wall! This way, organization works well and the child can take things out independently.

Hello, a brief guide on how to use PAX cabinets optimally for toy storage:

1. Planning: First, take stock of the types of toys you have – small items (Lego, puzzles), books, larger toys (cars, dolls), and craft materials. This will help you size the compartments appropriately.

2. Interior organization:
- Use different inserts: drawers for small parts, open shelving for larger toys, boxes or fabric baskets for flexible storage.
- Dividers inside drawers help prevent mixing, especially for small items.
- Doors protect against dust and make the room look tidier.

3. Safety & installation:
- Always secure PAX units to the wall, especially if they have pull-out elements or drawers, to prevent tipping.
- Choose the cabinet height based on the children's ages so they can easily access their belongings. Older children can use higher sections.

4. Design tips:
- Use color coding with boxes for easy sorting (red = building blocks, blue = cars, etc.). This also makes it easier for children to put things away.
- Sliding doors are practical in tight spaces, while hinged doors offer more spacious access.

I have also noticed that combining shelves and drawers in the PAX frame increases flexibility. When planning, avoid being too detailed with small compartments, as this can make tidying up frustrating. It’s better to size compartments generously.

Absolutely, wall mounting is a critical safety aspect that should not be overlooked, especially when small children are involved, as there are clear regulations for this.

Regarding interior organization, I would add: Ikea offers various inserts that can be combined, such as drawers with compartments or adjustable shoe inserts. Although these are not specifically designed for toys, they are very practical.

Using transparent boxes is also useful, so children can quickly see what’s inside without having to take everything out.

One more tip: if you have many small parts, I would recommend using color-coded boxes and labeling them accordingly.
