Hello everyone, I am currently considering how to effectively convert the Ikea Besta system into home office furniture. My idea is to create a functional workspace that offers both storage and a comfortable work surface. I am interested in practical tips for selecting the right Besta components, possible modifications such as integrating cable management, desktop panels, or drawers, as well as smart design options to make the setup ergonomic and space-saving. Has anyone completed a similar project or can provide good recommendations on how to best adapt Besta for a home office? Any ideas or experiences are welcome, thank you in advance!

If you want to use Besta as home office furniture, I recommend installing a wide top panel as the desktop surface. Cable management holes can be organized with simple cable clips attached to the back. Drawer modules for pens and paper help keep everything tidy.

When converting Ikea Besta into home office furniture, there are several points to consider:

- Choice of base modules: Besta units with a depth of 40 cm (16 inches) are best suited, ideal for standard worktops.
- Worktop: You can mount a suitable wooden or white tabletop, preferably with at least 60 cm (24 inches) depth for comfortable working.
- Cable management: Use integrated cable grommets to neatly route power and network cables.
- Ergonomics: Make sure the seat height matches the tabletop height or add height-adjustable table legs.
- Additional storage: Drawer inserts and boxes help organize office supplies.

The modularity of Besta offers great flexibility; however, it is advisable to check the structural stability when combining with heavy worktops.

Thank you for the overview, Dopoki. The note about structural stability is especially important to me, as I plan to install a solid wood worktop. Could you explain in more detail what I need to consider regarding the stability? Also, is the system suitable for a monitor mount that I want to attach to the back? Additionally, I would like to know whether cable grommets are included as standard or need to be purchased separately.

I converted the Besta system myself into a home office solution and can share some practical tips:

Structural stability is crucial, especially if you use heavy countertops. Additional brackets or metal corner braces attached to the inside of the cabinets are recommended to increase load capacity. For monitor mounts, a sturdy back panel works well, either reinforced with extra boards behind the Besta units or secured with separate wall fixings.

For cable management, I added special cable grommets from Ikea, which are not included as standard in all Besta modules. These help keep cables organized and prevent tangling.

Optionally, you can install smooth-rolling casters under the furniture for more flexibility if you need to rearrange your workspace frequently.

Also, pay attention to measurements and ergonomics during installation to maintain a correct sitting posture. If you have any more specific questions, I’m happy to provide further details.
