kla55Hello everyone,
I am currently considering how to efficiently use the Ikea PAX system for storing my various electronic devices. I am mainly thinking about items such as routers, modems, chargers, cables, smaller devices like tablets or cameras, and possibly accessories like external hard drives or audio equipment.
Are there any smart tips on how to best arrange the modules or use them specifically for electronics? Which organizers or inserts work well to prevent cable clutter while still allowing easy access?
Additionally, I am interested in how to integrate ventilation into the closed PAX wardrobe, since routers and similar devices constantly produce some heat.
I am looking forward to hearing about your experiences and good suggestions, ideally with practical advice or examples of how you have organized electronics in PAX.

Your question is very practical. I have been using PAX for such purposes myself for years, so here is a short how-to:
- First consideration: module size and interior layout. Choose rather wide and deep cabinets (at least 58x60 cm (23x24 inches)) so your devices don’t feel cramped.
- Ventilation: You can add ventilation slots behind the back panels or install acrylic sheets in certain areas to allow air circulation. A small USB fan at the bottom helps bring in fresh air.
- Cable management: Ikea offers various accessories like VARIERA boxes, cable holders, and storage compartments that can be well integrated. A cable duct behind the furniture can help neatly route cables either up or down.
- Organizing electronics: Smaller devices go into boxes, larger ones on shelves. Store batteries and chargers in slim drawers or boxes with dividers.
Test your arrangement with cardboard boxes before purchasing to get a good sense of the dimensions.
If you want more detailed tips for specific devices, just ask!

A small USB fan at the bottom helps with fresh air.Oh yes, absolutely right! I have a small, quiet PC fan with a USB connection in my PAX – it really makes a difference. It’s not only practical but also prevents my router from constantly overheating and throttling.
Another handy tip: place anti-static mats in the compartments, especially if you store sensitive electronics. Colorful cable ties also add a bit of fun and keep cables tidy.
And of course, without organizing elements, it quickly turns into a cable mess – but with the VARIERA boxes and small drawer inserts, it looks neat. 😁

Also, I’m interested in how to integrate ventilation into the enclosed PAX wardrobeI simply drilled holes in the back panel and installed a small fan. This provides continuous air circulation and prevents heat buildup. I store cables in VARIERA boxes. Simple and effective.

- Separate by device categories: routers, chargers, cables, smaller end devices, etc.
- Use adjustable interior fittings, such as VARIERA inserts with dividers, drawers, and boxes, so that everything has its dedicated place
- Consider heat generation: drilling holes in the back panel or cabinet sides for ventilation is necessary to avoid thermal issues
- Using USB-powered fans and cable pass-throughs can enhance air circulation and simplify cable management
Important: Avoid overcrowding the compartments to ensure sufficient airflow. A tightly packed piece of furniture acts as insulation and can reduce the lifespan of your electronics.

Are there any clever tips on the best way to arrange the modules or use them specifically for electronics?I would recommend combining modular units with different depths. PAX offers 35cm (14 inches) and 58cm (23 inches) depths, which work well for various device sizes. The shallower modules are ideal for cables and smaller components, while the deeper ones are better for routers, consoles, or chargers.

Which sorting elements or inserts work well to avoid cable clutter while still ensuring easy access?VARIERA boxes and drawer inserts fit perfectly. I’ve also installed rollers to easily pull out and handle individual items. For ventilation, I added slim vents at the top and bottom of the cabinet to allow passive airflow.
Equally important is a well-planned cable management system, for example using Velcro straps and cable grommets, so nothing gets in the way or tangled.
