Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble a large Ikea Pax wardrobe with several modules (width 150 cm (59 inches), height 236 cm (93 inches), depth 58 cm (23 inches)) and I am unsure how many people are ideally needed for this.

My specific question is: How many people are usually required to assemble a large Ikea Pax wardrobe properly, efficiently, and without major problems?

I am particularly interested in whether two people are sufficient, or if three or more are recommended—especially considering the size and weight of the individual wardrobe components, safe handling of the doors, as well as aligning and securing it to the wall.

I would greatly appreciate any experiences, tips on ideal task division, or advice on unexpected difficulties that might require more helpers.

Hello totomar,

Regarding your question: A large Ikea Pax wardrobe is definitely not a small piece of furniture and can quickly become challenging without the right assistance.

I would generally recommend having at least two people to assemble it. This is because the side panels and doors are often bulky and quite heavy. Especially when aligning and screwing them in, it helps if one person holds the parts while the other fastens them.

Whether a third person is really necessary depends on the experience and physical fitness of the helpers – if everyone is handy and has experience with furniture assembly, two people are usually enough.

It is also important to prepare the tools and all parts well and to allocate enough time – rushing only leads to frustration.

If you like, I can provide a few tips for preparation.

In addition to Grace’s comments: The Ikea Pax wardrobe consists of several heavy components, including large side panels, back panels, and doors.

- Minimum number: Two people are the minimum requirement for assembling a large wardrobe to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Advantage of three people: A third person can hold doors and heavier parts or provide tools and screws, which significantly simplifies the process.
- Safety: Attaching the wardrobe to the wall alone is especially risky with taller modules.

In conclusion, choosing between two or three people depends on availability and safety considerations. Assembling this wardrobe alone, as often happens in Ikea households, is not recommended due to its size and unwieldiness.

Two should be enough if you coordinate well.

A third helper is a bonus but not strictly necessary.

That may be, but why go through the hassle and stress of using only two people when you can have three or four?

With large cabinets like the Pax, it’s not just about physical effort but also a matter of safety.

I find the discussion quite conservative – many “two-person” plans sound like attempts to downplay the effort involved.

Anyone who has tried holding large doors alone or with just two people quickly appreciates having a third or fourth helper.

I have assembled the Pax wardrobe several times. Usually, two people are enough if you are reasonably coordinated.

A third person is never a bad idea, especially when attaching it to the wall and hanging the doors.
