Hello everyone, I am currently facing the task of assembling several Ikea Metod cabinet units. The alignment is especially important to me. My question is: How can I clearly tell if the Metod cabinet units are really straight and perfectly vertical? Are there any specific tips or tools to check this precisely? I am mainly concerned with maintaining straight lines and ensuring that the cabinets do not wobble, even on uneven floors. Does anyone have experience with aligning the Metod series and can offer advice on what to pay special attention to when adjusting them?

An important addition: Especially with Ikea Metod cabinet units, it is advisable to check that all units are perfectly vertical before mounting the doors. Doors can be difficult to adjust and may not close properly if the alignment is off. Use a precise angle laser measuring tool if available. This greatly simplifies alignment and reveals even small inclinations, particularly with tall cabinets. This is especially helpful if you are planning a fitted wall unit, as it helps prevent issues later on. It might also be possible to align the furniture using spacers from the floor before fully tightening the connecting screws.

Additionally, use a laser distance measurer with angle accuracy, if available.

Oh yes, a laser device is like the Swiss Army knife of tools! 😎 If you don’t have one, a good old smartphone with a leveling app works too. Just don’t be too critical—getting started is often the hardest part, and the longer you keep at it, the better it gets!

Could you explain in more detail how to best use the connector fittings to achieve a flush alignment between the Metod units?

Sure, here is a detailed suggestion:
- Start with a single unit. Adjust its position perfectly using a spirit level and the adjustable feet.
- After leveling, attach a connector to one side but do not fully tighten the screws yet, so there is some room for adjustment.
- Place the second cabinet unit next to it and position it so that the front edges are flush.
- Fine-tune the alignment by making small adjustments, checking with the spirit level both horizontally and vertically to ensure both are plumb.
- Once everything lines up correctly, tighten the connectors fully.
- Repeat this process for additional modules when assembling a complete wall of cabinets.
Keep in mind: the better each individual cabinet is positioned, the easier it will be to achieve overall alignment. Small floor irregularities can be compensated by adjusting the feet; the connector fittings provide only minor correction. These fittings allow minimal play, usually in the range of one to two millimeters.

I just want to say, the more you work with Metod, the more relaxed you become. 😌 Loosen the screws on the connectors just enough at first, align everything temporarily, double-check with a spirit level and plumb line, and then tighten carefully and gradually – this way, no misalignments occur. And yes, a little patience is needed! You can easily manage this! 🎉

Finally, a tip: especially with older floors or slightly uneven walls, it is advisable to install a flexible mounting board behind the cabinets. This improves support and compensates for minor irregularities. Also, check if the back panels are installed perfectly straight, as even small inaccuracies there can affect the final alignment. For extra safety, cabinets can be additionally secured to the wall if needed to reduce the risk of tipping.
