I am planning to retrofit my existing Ikea Pax wardrobe with doors that feature mirrors. Since the Pax series is known for allowing many customizations, I would like to know the best approach for installing mirrored doors afterward.
Specifically, I am interested in the following points:
- What exact measurements should I take when ordering or having mirrors made?
- Are there special mounting materials or brackets from Ikea, or do you need to be creative here?
- How does the installation process work, especially regarding the stability and safety of the mirrors?
- Which tools are most useful for this kind of project?
I want to avoid ending up with something that doesn’t fit or doors that aren’t stable enough. Has anyone had experience with this or any advice that could help? I look forward to tips and practical insights!

What exact measurements should I take when ordering or having mirrors made?Take the precise measurements of your current doors, minus the thickness of the frame if you plan to replace it. Ikea also offers PAX doors with mirror panels. If you want to install mirrors yourself, clamp profiles or glass clamps work well.

Hello,
I can completely understand, as Ikea PAX wardrobes offer many options for customization, especially when it comes to the doors.
Regarding the measurements: It is definitely a good idea to first measure the existing door frames precisely—height, width, and thickness. Since mirrors are often rigid and should not be cut down, it’s better to choose mirror panels that fit exactly into the designated frames or holders. Many people use special mirror inserts directly from Ikea. Otherwise, you could have mirror glass cut to size at a hardware store, but be careful to check the edges and the break-resistance.
As for installation: Ikea sells so-called profile frames for PAX doors, into which you can insert panels, mirrors, or other glass. If you already have the PAX doors without mirrors, you can buy these frames afterward to secure the mirror. This is safer than attaching the mirror directly to a wooden door.
In terms of tools, besides a cordless drill, I would recommend a spirit level and possibly clamps to ensure proper alignment during installation. When handling mirrors, please be careful and ideally work with gloves.
If you have any more questions, I’m happy to help!

If you use the Ikea PAX profile frames, you simply screw the mirrors into the designated cutouts.
Alternatively, glass clamp fittings or double-sided mirror adhesive tape can provide stability. It is important not to put too much stress on the door afterward.
