Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Malm bed with drawers, and some of the drawer parts (especially the side panels) are damaged or warped. I want to replace these drawer parts but am not sure how to proceed since the construction seems quite simple but firmly assembled. Are there specific replacement parts available from IKEA or other sources? And most importantly: how can I properly remove the old side panels without damaging the rest of the drawer? I would appreciate any tips on disassembly, alternative material suggestions, or experiences with custom replacements. Thanks in advance!

Replacing drawer parts: remove screws, carefully loosen side panelThat sounds fine at first, but for someone doing it for the first time, it can be quite stressful. I was also afraid of breaking something.
My advice: take your time and work step by step, and if possible, get help from a friend, since sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees. 🙂
Maybe you also have a small rubber mallet? You can use it (carefully!) if the parts are a bit stuck. It’s also important to remove the screws on the front and back sides of the drawer, as those mainly hold the side panel in place.

Most of the time, the side panels are either slotted or screwed in.That is only partially correct. The strength of the connection depends heavily on the model year – older Malm drawers often still use clip systems, while newer ones rather use screws with dowels.
What I find important: Guleus, have you observed exactly how the damaged parts are fixed? If the original anchoring is broken, a repair kit with metal brackets for reinforcement could be a possible solution to stabilize it.
Also: Have you checked the guide rails? It might be simpler and more cost-effective to replace them, especially if you want the drawer to slide smoothly again later.
