Hello everyone, I am considering how to adapt my Ikea Besta system for practical use in the bedroom. The modules are currently set up more for living room purposes but are now intended to serve as storage and also as a design element next to and possibly behind the bed. I am especially interested in practical tips for integrating lighting, material modifications to create a more pleasant appearance, and perhaps clever ideas for using them as a nightstand or to prevent dust buildup in closed cabinets. Does anyone have experience with customized Besta modifications specifically tailored for bedroom use? Thanks for your ideas!

I used the Besta unit behind my bed as a headboard and placed a continuous board on top. Additionally, I added small shelves on the sides for lamps and an alarm clock. It works great, looks impressive, and still provides storage space.

A tip: If you want to use Besta as a bedside table, choose small modules with drawers. This is much more practical than open compartments because you can better hide small items this way.

That sounds interesting! How did you secure the modules to prevent them from slipping, and how did you handle the wiring plan for any integrated reading lights?

How did you fix the modules so they don’t slip

I secured the Besta to the wall using brackets and additionally fixed the modules to the floor with sturdy battens. For the cable ducting, I installed small cable conduits on the wall; this looks neat and doesn’t get in the way.

Thanks to everyone for the great contributions; this shows how versatile Besta can be adapted! I would also like to add that when redesigning the bedroom, ergonomics should not be overlooked—for example, paying attention to the appropriate height of shelves and comfortable opening mechanisms. This saves a lot of frustration in the long run.

Really helpful, thank you all! Overall, I am considering the following measures for my Besta unit in the bedroom: - Replacing the fronts with matte, warm wood tones - Installing LED strips in the shelf compartments - Back panel with breathable non-woven wallpaper - Doors that can be locked for clothes storage - Securing to the bed and wall for stability - Cable outlets for chargers - Drawer modules as a replacement for bedside tables Thanks for the inspiring tips, please keep them coming!
