Hello everyone,
I have a problem with the doors of my Billy bookshelf squeaking when I open and close them. It’s quite annoying, especially since the bookshelf is in a relatively quiet room and the sound is really noticeable.
I suspect the issue is with the hinges or possibly the plastic components. I’ve done some research and it seems this problem is common with furniture like the BILLY.
So my question is: How can I effectively stop the doors of my BILLY bookshelf from squeaking without damaging the furniture or risking the warranty? Are there any proven home remedies or special products for treating the hinges?
I don’t have much experience with furniture repairs and don’t want to make any mistakes, so detailed tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Could it be that the adjustment is not 100% accurate despite the correction, causing stress on the hinge?Yes, exactly. Even a misalignment of just a millimeter or a slight tilt can be enough to cause friction or stress at a different hinge point.
To check this:
1. Open the door slowly and notice if the squeaking occurs more at a specific angle.
2. Examine the gaps on all four sides of the door frame—they should be as even and parallel as possible.
3. Using a small angle gauge or ruler can help you better control the door’s position relative to the frame.
4. If the door sticks or feels different at only one corner, it is likely due to a missing angle adjustment.
If you can loosen some screws slightly, try loosening the top screw on the hinge just a bit, shift the door slightly, and then tighten it again. This can reduce the tension.
Important: Do not overtighten the screws, as this can warp the hinge or the shelving unit.
If you want, I can provide you with a detailed guide on how to adjust the BILLY doors.
