Hello everyone, I hope you can help me: How can I properly install and precisely adjust IKEA Metod base cabinet doors with recessed handles? I have already attached the hinges to the doors and the cabinet frames, but I am still unsure how to adjust the doors with the recessed handles so that they close perfectly, don’t sag, and align flush visually. Could you share tips on which screws on the Metod hinges to use for adjustment and whether there are any special considerations for recessed handle doors compared to regular fronts? It’s important for me to avoid alignment issues and achieve a neat overall appearance. Thanks in advance!

Hello, to add to your question: The IKEA Metod hinges are actually designed so that you can make essential adjustments using three screws:

- Side screw for horizontal alignment
- Vertical screws on the hinge plate attached to the cabinet carcass
- Depth adjustment screw at the rear hinge point

For the recessed handle doors, it is especially important to fine-tune the clearance (i.e., the gap dimensions and smooth operation), since the recesses act as handles. Especially with deeper drawer fronts or wide recessed handles, the doors can become difficult to open if they are positioned too close to each other.

I also recommend not tightening the screws fully before making all adjustments. Many tighten them right away, which makes further adjustment harder. Always work in small increments and check the effect on the door. If you are unsure about mounting the hinges, it can help to attach them to the door first and then hang the door on the cabinet as a whole.

I wish you good luck with your project!

Just a quick reminder: The side screw on the hinge is for horizontal adjustment, the one at the back controls the depth, and the screws on the mounting bracket adjust the vertical position. It is important not to set the doors too tightly, especially when using recessed handles.
