Hello everyone,

I am currently thinking about how to customize Ikea Platsa furniture in a practical and creative way for office use. My main goal is to adapt the standard modules to fit my working style without having to buy entirely new furniture.

Maybe someone has experience with specific extensions or useful modifications? I’m thinking of things like additional shelves, clever cable management solutions, as well as visual changes such as customized handles or surface finishes. What about adding drawer inserts or accessories from other furniture lines to enhance functionality?

I look forward to suggestions and tips, especially practical ideas that can truly make everyday office work easier and create a more personalized work environment.

This topic is really interesting because I face exactly the same challenge. You want to work practically, but also feel comfortable.

What helped me: I stuck self-adhesive felt pads under the feet to make it easier to move during office relocation. Then I attached magnetic strips to the sides and use small magnets to organize cables and paperclips.

Regarding surfaces, I experimented with films – you can achieve a lot with different patterns and colors. However, I had to make sure the film was durable enough for everyday use.

Do you also find that often the subtle things make the biggest difference? For me, it was surprising how much space I gained through small additions and how much more pleasant it became to work.

Really exciting topic! I swapped out my Platsa furniture handles for colored ones, which instantly brought more life into the office. The clip-on handles from Ikea fit perfectly and are easy to install!

I also added casters underneath, so I can move the modules around flexibly when I want to rearrange.

A great tip is to use drawer organizers for cutlery or tools. It keeps everything tidy and saves a lot of time searching. I borrowed this idea from the kitchen, and it works really well in an office!

If you’re up for some DIY, you can paint the back panels with chalkboard paint – that way you always have a handy note area right on the furniture.

Just give it a try, it’s fun and really makes a difference 🙂

From a technical perspective, it is important to know the exact dimensions of the Platsa modules in order to use compatible accessories effectively.

Ikea offers various shelves and divider inserts that can be easily hooked in and help improve organization. At the same time, universal drawer inserts from office supply or kitchen sections can create customized compartments, for example, for stationery, cables, or tools.

Regarding cable management, the use of cable channels or power strips with adhesive pads is recommended, as they can be discreetly attached to the interior sides. This helps prevent cable clutter and maintains a clean appearance.

I generally advise against independently changing the surface finish or material thickness for stability reasons. Removable modifications such as stickers, films, or replacement handles with precisely fitting screws are preferable.

Overall, modular use of Platsa is certainly possible, but it is important to keep the structural integrity of the furniture in mind, especially when redistributing or adding load.
