Hello everyone, I am considering how to convert my Ikea PAX wardrobe into a shoe cabinet and use it as efficiently as possible. Specifically, I want to design the interior layout to maximize storage space for shoes of different sizes and types, while still maintaining a clear overview and avoiding overly cramped shoes. Additionally, I would like to know which shelves, baskets, or special inserts work best to separate and neatly store sneakers, boots, and formal shoes. Does anyone have experience with custom modifications or tips on how to modularly convert the PAX so that it functions well as a shoe cabinet? I am looking for practical ideas that are easy to implement and do not require too much DIY work.

I'm looking for practical ideas that are easy to implement and don't require too much handyman work. A few ideas immediately came to mind! Imagine flexible partition walls or even pull-out drawers to tame your shoe clutter. Sneakers organized in a grid, boots stored standing up – it almost feels like shoe romance! 😄 And if you add a bit of color and mixed materials, the whole setup not only looks tidy but also stylish.
Let’s set aside the usual considerations: do you really use entire shelves just to store shoes? Aren’t such solutions often inflexible, given that shoes vary greatly in size and volume? Perhaps it would be better to use removable components with foam inserts or even adjustable rails. It would be interesting to discuss whether traditional storage methods are truly advantageous here, or if the PAX system might actually be counterproductive when used solely as a shoe cabinet.
I am really excited about the idea of converting PAX! 😍 I have stored my sneakers in shallow drawers, so I can see them quickly. A tip: The small boxes from Ikea, which are actually meant for drawers, work perfectly as compartments! This way, nothing slides around. And adding some LED lighting makes a huge difference and greatly improves visibility.

Maybe it would be better to use removable elements with foam inserts or even adjustable rails. That sounds complex and rather expensive. In my experience with PAX, simple, easy-to-install shelves work best. Shelves at different heights, possibly complemented by wire baskets for smaller shoes or sandals, are more practical.
