Hello everyone,
I am currently planning the furnishing for my new apartment and considering combining Ikea Platsa furniture with existing kitchen cabinets. My question is quite specific: How can Platsa units, which are primarily known as flexible storage solutions, be integrated aesthetically and functionally with traditional kitchen cabinets?
I am especially interested in how to create visually seamless transitions and whether there are any special tips or compatible colors and materials to harmoniously blend these two types of furniture.
Perhaps someone has experience with such combinations or can offer advice on what to watch out for when measuring, mounting, or selecting fittings to avoid problems later on. Also, how does it work with fronts when mixing different manufacturers?
I look forward to your feedback.

Good morning everyone,
I wanted to revisit my question because I worked on a design with the PLATSA configurator yesterday. I noticed that you can make many individual adjustments to the furniture.
That sounds reasonable, but how are the PLATSA furniture pieces actually connected to the kitchen units from a technical standpoint? Are there standardized mounting points, or do you have to create custom solutions with brackets and such?
Also, I’m considering whether the PLATSA elements should be aligned at the same height as the countertop—what advantages and disadvantages do you see here?
Looking forward to your thoughts!

When it comes to fittings, always use the original Ikea fittings—they fit perfectly and are sturdy.

How are the PLATSA furniture pieces technically attached to the kitchen base units? The carcasses of PLATSA have standardized pre-drilled holes and mounting options. There isn’t always a direct connection to the kitchen base units, but you can create a secure attachment using screws and brackets.

Also, I’m considering whether to align the PLATSA units at the same height as the countertop.Aligning them at a uniform height creates a cleaner look and provides useful surface space. On the downside, this can reduce flexibility if you have shelves of varying depths or if there are electrical outlets behind the units. My advice: first determine the height of the kitchen base units and then align PLATSA accordingly – this results in a harmonious overall appearance.
Hey niplo! I really like the idea of combining PLATSA with kitchen cabinets. It creates so much space for creativity! 😊
My tip: See if you can use some decorative panels to conceal the transitions. And yes, matching colors definitely work well, but a small mix of materials can make it more interesting—as long as the colors don’t clash too much.
And honestly, even if it sounds like extra work: check the placement of sockets and switches before assembling! Otherwise, you might build everything first and later face a stressful situation with cables and such.
Otherwise, enjoy the planning—doing a makeover like this is fun but can also be a bit frustrating, I know! 😉

Hello niplo,
I can easily understand how challenging such a combination can be. I once combined kitchen cabinets with PLATSA myself and was initially unsure if it would look good at all.
My most important advice: Take your time during the planning stage, especially regarding measurements and fastenings. A sturdy connection is important not only for the appearance but also for everyday safety.
I also learned that you shouldn’t just place the furniture next to each other, but actually screw them together. This significantly stabilizes the entire structure and prevents tipping hazards, especially if there are children in the household.
So don’t hesitate—measure twice and don’t be afraid to ask if you’re unsure. You’ve got this.
